You can get them from Spore.com or if you are one of the fortunate ones who managed to get the game registered online and have access to the server you can download them through sporepedia or the creature creator. I am not sure if you can use the downloaded creatures in game though. Still trying to figure that out myself :P. You can edit them though.

If you are unable to connect your game to the server you can get player-made content by going to your game settings (click the swirly thing in the lower left corner of the game's main menu) and unticking the full screen option. The game screen will minimize and you can drag and drop creatures from Spore.com (since there is now room to run your web browser too) directly into your creature creator. Or, there is also a file located in "documents" called "My Spore Creations". You can drag and drop creatures into those files as well.
