These options are set by the developer though. EA may or may not allow it.
Weird. I've seen several...
Of course, when I point them out, I'm always told, "That's not like Spore!"
So people can just keep on playing Spore I guess.
Universim probably qualifies as a post-creature Spore-like too.
Checking my Followed games, I found these either in Early Access or still in development:

(Sorry, Ecosystem was released in November.)
Others might suggest Thrive, which isn't on Steam. But it's been in development hell since 2010 and the developers were up to some shady open-source antics for a while.
I'll keep an eye out though.
But yeah, there are "creature evolution" games out there. They just don't get a lot of promotion or marketing seems like.
