Spore

RIP Maxis, may spore 2 never be released under EA
so I know many people will either rage at this title, question this title, but hopefully understand or will understand this title soon.

Maxis was the driving force of spore, the game that suffered overhype from a man who shall remain anonymous (though many know exactly who) and still became a classic. Recently Maxis was closed due to EA, and I know this news is late but i just want to say I hope I never see spore 2 without maxis running it because i do not trust (nor should anyone) EA with titles anymore. I am afraid enough for Battlefront 3 because EA has been milking and destroying their old titles.
If left to EA alone, spore 2 might be outsourced at best and at worst be under one of its next victim dev teams in its long list of company absorbings (see every damn good company they have taken over, ♥♥♥♥ on their titles, and spat back out when the money was sucked dry).
Should it be under direct development the game will likely be riddled with micro transactions, chopped up DLC, lack of care or creativity and an overall mess of bugs. I'd rather this title be left untainted with no sequel than a sequel only to muddy the name spore. Until EA changes (if they ever do before they ruin themselves) and shows that they can handle companies, games, and licences responsibly as they once did, this opinion of mine shall stand.

I know this is really late to the RIP maxis party but i just wanted to say this eventually, even if it was late, and/or an obvious statement to some.

And I accept what you say, but remember that there is also change that is bad, recessions, depressions, war, and corruption. Change is a double edged sword and I would rather live in the moment of this situation where spore is a classic joy with a positive name than a sad future where EA has tainted yet another franchise for no gain short or long term for the series.

Companies and software come and go. Everything has it's day. Celebrate what is in the world, lament was has past, and look forward to what new thing will be next. Without change we would still be huddled in the darkness. Lucky us somebody invented fire, and change has been with us ever since. Sure I loved Spore back in the day, and still like it enough to have bought it again on Steam with both expansions. But it will never be any more than it is now. Be Happy With What You Have.

And to speak philosophically with you as you have me:
While we look forward to what new thing will be next, we also must procede with caution. Reckless behavior is the downfall to society. While risks must be taken to advance, with fire came both advancement and destruction. It is the ability to both enjoy what is to come and prepare for its inevitable misuse that has allowed us to survive as long as we have. Just as with spore or any other franchise under EA, we must prepare for the inevitable misuse EA will actively do, is actively doing, and has actively done to its titles and accept the fact that the change they will bring has a high chance of being painful and unwanted.

Ea is a mystery to me,they once made some of the greatest games around and then they just...went evil.
what confuses me more is they've survived this long, what with the uprising of indie greats like dust an elysian tail, freedom planet, don't starve and the like, triple A game companys are being tested to survive in an increasingly indie run comunity.
however dispite this,EA haven't died yet,if this is down to the money they have left over from EA's glory days,or the remaining fanboys from said glory days,or a mixture of both remains to be said.
no doubt in my mind this can't keep going forever.
one of two things with happen soon.they end up having to leave the market through lack of money where poetic justice hits and EA end up getting bought,(along with all the francises they bought, plants vs zombie, peggle, mass effect, ect,a chartible gaming gold mine.)or they fix their act and they return to the way they where in the glory days.

which will happen?only time will tell

It's not like Spore has the Fan-Base that Subspace has. That player-aquisition actually worked.

You know what would be interesting? If an indie dev "remade" Spore into a game ten times better than the original, like what happened when the SimCity game was remade by an indie developer to make the game "Cities: Skylines". I would back such a project on Kickstarter if it ever happened legit...

Funny part of this discussion is those of us that followed the whole development of spore from concept and demo, discussion etc. Spore was much more complex. The demo test programs, even the beta creature creator had more complexity. But a big wig insisted it be a game for kids and forces Maxis to keep dumbing it down because it was too hard/complex. Design of creature actually had affected performance in the early tests, but they changed it to only be a value of a part without design needing anything.

Even when the creature creator beta came out this was still in it. If you invested DNA into legs and feet, it made a total, not just took the highest value. So it was a hit and miss thing. Invest in offence, style, movement, etc. Could make a very fast creature, but might not have been as combat effective and the like.

That all got removed before release because it was deemed to complex or probably broken. When spore came out, the maxis team disliked what EA forced them to do so much, they actually re-directed the forum away from EA's own control. Maxis team made their own website for forums. In addition, most of the driving force behind spore left.

Thrive, while slow in it's development, is actually doing what Spore was originally supposed to do before the executives started meddling where they should never have been allowed to meddle. Though it's also quite a bit more complex then Spore was planned to be.
