Downloaded Spore, won't work...

Ok so for the Summer Steam sale Spore was half off so I said, "Hey, I think this game is cool and its on a sale, lets get it!" I installed it and everything but when i start it up it goes into a black screen for a couple seconds, then boots me back to the steam library. The game still runs though. When I try again, it does the same thing. I have tried the regedit and validating it and nothing works. I have Windows 7 and 64bit computer. Help me pleeassee! :'(

Spore is riddled with bugs. Someone should have warned you.
I couldn't launch the game either as my "data directory was corrupt."
I decided to just torrent the game. I payed for it, so Im not hurting the developer, and at least by torrenting it, itll actually work.

GUYS I FOUND OUT HOW TO MAKE IT WORK!! Go to the file location that your game is installed at... So like C: > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > Common > Spore. Then go into the spore thing then right click the .exe or application. At the bottom, press Properties, then press the Compatibility tab. Set it to start as administrator, then set the compatibility mode as Windows XP (Service Pack 2). IT WORKED FOR ME!!

Aaand now it wont work again. It is the same compatibility mode and everything, but its like when I restart the computer it doesnt want to do anything else. Spore is doing the same thing it did to me earlier.

Did you install Spore: Galactic Adventures? Because when you install Spore: Galactic Adventures it rewrites your spore.exe. I'm using windows 7 pro 64bit and I installed spore, then the galactic adventures before playing the game and it works fine for me (occasional crash when my mouse moves to another monitor but that's understandable).

Dear WooHooDood, I downloaded Spore today and it didn't start either, so I googled and found out that you've to set your resolution to max. 1024x768; not in the game but your overall desktop resolution ;)
Worked for me and hope it helps you (and someone else) half a year later :)

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about this post... I actually found out how to fix it a long time ago. Sadly, I did not post it. I also forgot it :/ BUT, thanks for the info!

1024x768?! That's for old type of screens. Mine is 1920x1080 and if I go lower it f*ck my screen. All my Steam games work fine, why not this one?!

I have done everything you said and changed my screen resolution and verified the files and it still won't work
