However, if I found myself in an alternate timeline where Spore didn't lose money and a sequel was possible I'd want a game with actual evolution mechanics, but allow you to use divine intervention to nudge things.
Also, always-online DRM.

Also, I've never liked how selecting an NPC seems to mess with how the player character moves in the creature stage and Galactic Adventures, like how it sometimes(?) seems to be compelled to fly towards whatever I've selected. The combat system in general could probably use an overhaul; I'm imagining that if the creature stage was controlled basically like a third person shooter instead of using this strange RTS-like approach and allowed for techniques like dodging to a greater degree, it could've been more mechanically interesting
Also, most of the socialization stuff really feels tacked-on. The Simon Says stuff is braindead aside from maybe planning to impress a tribe without having someone try to kick your ass, and it could use either an overhaul or a complete removal. Going for the blue cards (aside from the civilization stage one, which is basically its stage's green card) also feels like it necessitates arbitrarily switching between killing and befriending without necessarily having any rhyme or reason rather than having a strong incentive to befriend more than a handful of creatures without befriending everything you can. Not to mention that aside from in terms of gameplay, it might make a little sense to have a tribe befriend every other, but I sure haven't heard of any animal allying with maybe 20 other species just by proving that it's at least as good at showing off as all of those
