Optimal city buildings layout and guides about it
To be honest, the main question that worries me is - do I understand correctly that all the countless layouts posted by players, and which can be easily found on the Internet, are calculated so that maybe someone will get lucky and stumble upon exactly the same city? Not that I have any complaints about this, but... While I was trying to figure it out myself, I became interested in what the point is? After all, there can be countless combinations, and in reality it is easier to solve these puzzles yourself.

There is a very limited number of layouts for the city nodes, so "finding exactly the same city" isn't a one in a million chance, it is more like one in three. The colonies you drop (or that show up on planets other empires have colonized) have three available layouts, and there is another set of ten layouts that is used only for homeworlds - these are the same layouts that you see in the civilization stage on your homeworld. Since you can have more cities on a homeworld, the cities are a bit smaller and thus weaker.

So long as your cities aren't unhappy, you should be fine no matter what layout you choose. Though you're probably better off doing whatever generates the most spice in a short amount of time.

I think I've figured it out now. Thank you very much for explaining this to me.
