I assume you bought the game on Steam and playing it here.

From what I remember EA's launcher (formerly Origin) has a slightly newer version of Spore, and the servers only accept that version. It's this exact reason that has spawned a common misconception that Spore's servers are gone.

You should have gotten product keys on Steam from purchasing the games here that work on EA's launcher.

Steam doesnt give EA CD keys apparently > You need to go to help.ea.com and open a new Case, send them your proof of payment and explain you cant get online features because of this and you want access to those features, as you should have, since you paid for the game itself - If you send the correct information they will add Spore to your EA account itself, and you will have the online features and be able to login/register. I did this a couple days ago and can confirm it works once they have it registered to your EA and if its linked to your Steam account :) It might be a bit hard to do as they need very specific screenshots but just be patient and it'll work out

No, the problem is that if EA does not have a record that you own the game, you can't access the servers, they are very much still up.

As one of the previous people mentioned. There are very, VERY specific screenshots they 'need'. I offered them the exact information they asked for, and they refused to do it even still, in fact someone out of the country tried to access one of my accounts after talking to several EA reps.

EA is just full of a bunch of jackasses. Nothing more. They are high class jerks who won't let you play content you paid for. Unfortunately I couldn't play spore to find this out for two years because I only got my PC this year so I can't get a refund even though I can't play it so.

My recommendation, if you can't play and you haven't had it for two weeks, refund it on steam and get it on EA or just refund it and buy something else.

there's a pretty easy fix to this. go to your steam purchase history, get a full screenshot of your spore receipt, make an ea account (make sure the password is 8 char or below, old game old limitations). go to ea support (live chat has faster responses than email) open up a case and attach the screenshot of your purchase proof. tell them you can't connect to the spore servers when logging in and you need them to fix it. they are always extremely incompetent and have broken english at the best of times so you may have to open a few support cases, but this is what I did and I have a working spore account. the servers aren't dead, you don't have to buy a new copy of the game, you just need to keep pestering ea support. hell, you can even do this to get the dr pepper bot parts badge on your sporepedia account for free.

That is an excellent piece of advice that had never occurred to me before.

Might want to be careful with special characters too. I don't recall all of the Spore password limitations off-hand.
