is dark injection safe?

hello i have had spore in the past and played it many years on my old pc and had dark injection at one point but now i fear if i get it again my new pc will be infected with something is there any way to know its safe or is it risky ?
EDIT i noticed there isnt a way to get it on the steam version due to the files being different if i manage to get the mod where should i put it in the steam version?

i went to davos site and my antivirus says its unsafe which confirms my fears now i dont know what to do

Don't install it. You clearly don't trust the mod files and you don't know what to do with them anyway.

i have had this mod before but im unsure where to put it in the steam version and if viruses could have attached itself to the mod because davos forums seem to be unsafe

steam version seems to lack the same file locations where the normal disc version had where i put the mod before and need to see if other people who have the steam version have this mod and if there antivirus blocked them from davos sites i am so sorry for double posting
EDIT i know where to put it i just need to know if the download is safe
