Game Crashes When Dying
Hey everybody,
sometimes my game crashes when I die in creature phase. Does someone knows a solution?

Don't die.
I would try verifying your game cache. If that doesnt fix it , reinstall your game.

How do I do that?

this happens to me too

My workaround was to save my game before each encounter with a hostile nest of creatures. That way I am not losing half an hour or more of effort, and it only takes 3 seconds.

When that happens I always reinstall spore because of frustration, also thinking that is could solve my problem with it crashing when I die.

Creature stage crash on death is a well-documented bug[forum.spore.com], and reinstalling will not fix the problem. If you are using an incredibly old computer, it could be your graphics card.[forum.spore.com] If that is the problem, you can't downgrade to patch 4 (on Steam) to fix the bug and you shouldn't even if it was possible. The best band-aid fix for old graphics cards is mashing the ESC button on death and hoping the game doesn't crash.

This doesn't answer the topic (just for general crash resolution), but Spore was also released eight years ago, and can have compatibility issues with new graphics cards; it probably isn't related to the previously-linked crash bug because it was caused by old graphics cards having compatibility problems with DirectX. If you don't like dealing with crashes, consider dropping your graphics settings, but don't expect much. Spore is a buggy game and the best safeguard you have against crashes, particularly the deathcrash, is following arnzod's advice:

Well I do something like arnzod: I save every brain upgrade.

I realized the game kept crashing when I die as well. So far, in all 5 hours (at the moment), that I've been playing Spore, I've only managed to die about two or three times. The crashes are consistent enough to convince me that I should try to avoid death at all costs. Not only does it kill my creature...it kills the entire game XD.

Just...don't die. Avoid being cornered by Epic creatures, don't fight battles you can't win, and use your skills to get out of sticky situations.

Well I guess you could say I do something like that; I stay out of fights I know I cannot win. All the time. So how would I die? Well, You see, My headphones are bugged, so as an example I could say: An epic is stalking closer and closer to me. Of course I cannot hear it, however. So at one point it catches up to me as I am not alarmed because I have NO IDEA that it is stalking me, and then you know what happens.
When I die It always crashes. I wish I could actualy enjoy Spore™. But at the same time it's not spore's fault. It's my old computer's fault ( And my headphone's fault ).

press ESC instead of clicking the checkmark

Do you have a window XP, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or a Mac?

You're replying to a six+ month old post!

The error is a know bug that was never fixed/patched. Molten Chocolates suggestion does work though probably pointless given the age of the post he/she is replying too.

The problem is still valid, despite the age of the post. Better to use an old post than to clutter up the fourms with new one. This is an older game with no recent patch, after all. I do try pressing esc as soon after dying, but I still have the game freeze on me.

My own issue seems to be a bit different then what most people report; when I die, it doesn't crash, the screen just goes black with the blue cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to anything I might be able to do?
