Spore

All new players; Can anyone register a new account in September 2021?
DISCLAIMER: IVE HAD GAME SINCE 2008 I HAVE NO ACCOUNT ISSUES MY GAME IS FINE THIS IS JUST TO HELP OTHERS AND HOPEFULLY GET A SOLUTION.

ALSO:
These two massive threads on the EA forums contain many who have this same problem, some of which are trying to fix it themselves by developing a mod. Give that thread some upvotes and a "me too", the more EA sees it the better.

It involves going into your computer's registry, getting your CD key and redeeming it on origin. After redeeming you can register an account on spore no problem using your origin login.

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bugs-Technical-Issues/Can-t-register-account-in-game/m-p/10465765#M11929

It would appear theres a new error in the Spore download phase:
Original Download Guide:
1. Buy game, use CD keys in Origin
2. Install on origin
3. Run Spore
4. Register a Spore account on Origin Spore using EA account
5. Uninstall Spore from origin
6. Reinstall on steam and login with the new Spore account you just made

It would appear the new problems are:
1. Getting the CD key for the base game
and
5. Register a spore account on Origin Spore using EA account

Not only are there no CD keys for the base game anymore apparently, but even after EA support gives you a copy for Origin, registering an account is impossible. "an unknown error occurred during registration".

Currently, ea.help.com does not have a solution for this, over 800 players have tried live chats and only got as far as successfully installing on Origin but still not able to register.

Any new Sep. 2021 solutions would be appreciated by many. (saying "ea.help.com" has helped nobody)

CURRENT SOLUTION (possibly viable)
Apparently, buying Creature Creator off steam is the only solution, but has not worked for a select few; so may not be viable. If thats the case, it can be refunded.

https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/spore/spore-creature-creator

1. Either purchase Spore Creature Creator off origin for $10 or ask an EA support official for a copy of it. (Explaining that account registration isn't available on main game should help your case)

2. You do not have to install or download Creature Creator, you just need to own it. It comes with the 'entitlement' that you now have access to the spore servers and the sporepedia, meaning, you now have the ability to connect to them.

3. Without refunding Creature Creator (if its refunded, the entitlement is lost), you should now be able to register on Steam or Origin, with full online features.

I want to make it clear that going into your registry is very risky and I don't recommend doing this to fix the problem. I take no responsibility for damage to anybodies computer.

I'm on Windows so to start:

1.Hit the Windows key and R at the same time. That will open a run window. Enter "Regedit" into the box and click Ok.

2.After clicking ok for admin privileges there are 3 possible places it could be.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node (64-bit only)
(I'm using 64 bit so mine was in the last one I mentioned)

3. In those folders look for a "Electronic Arts" folder

4. In the Electronic Arts folder you should see 2 folders mentioning Spore. "Spore" and "Spore_EP1". My CD Key (Named "ProductKey" in the registry) was in the "Spore_EP1" folder.

5. Next to "ProductKey" under "Data" You should have a 20 character code. Thats the cd key.

6. Go to your Origin account and at the top right of your library page it says "Add game" Click that and enter the product key code and it should let you choose which spore you want. (Different languages so make sure you choose your language)

7. Once you have the game in your Origin account you can start it up in steam enter your origin login info and choose a username for your Spore account and that should create the account. Worked for me anyway.

Unfortunately I don't know about Mac and Linux because I don't have either of those operating systems.

Once Spore is registered on Origin, your Spore login is the same as your Origin login.

If not: help.ea.com

Spore cannot be registered on origin, players are met with "unknown error during registration"

help.ea.com does not have a solution for this, all they can do is give you a copy of the game on origin

Solution #!:
Turns out there is still a way to make a Spore account, but for a price:

1. Buy Spore Creature Creator on Origin:
https://www.ea.com/games/spore/spore-creature-creator

2. Make an account on there
(Note: you may not even have to download Creature Creator, as long as you have the "Access to MySpore at Spore.com" flag, you can log in on steam)

3. Notice how it has the access to myspore:
https://imgur.com/WFnCVPg

4. Run spore on steam and login using your new account

Hmm they offer a free trial of the creature creator too. Wonder if you could create an account through the free trial to save the cost of buying it fully.

That would be miraculous, except I dont think the free trial is online at all, supposed to be an offline game

Trial version gets the "Error connecting to the spore server" error message

Yes. The in-game account registration broke when the server was moved in 2015. EA never updated the game to the new address.

I suppose they probably gave you a new CD key instead of using the one linked to your Steam account. Spore accounts are limited to one CD key.

The obvious solution is to play on Origin. The CD Keys for the expansions are available on Steam. Register them on Origin as well and you're good to go.

I was able to find my cd key by going into my computers registry files...Once I found my cd key I entered it into my origin account and the game was added to my origin library. Once i had it in my origin library I started it through steam and was able to create a Spore account.

Going into my computers registry is far from the most ideal way to resolve the issue but luckily it worked out for me in this case.

Yeah, I was going to say "risky", but still, very clever. Well done! :KentWinning:

Where are they located?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Pancakes11's solution worked for me. But the CD-key was located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\electronic arts\ea games\spore(tm)\ergc on my computer.
