Spore

is Spore 2 a possibility?
I love Spore and I honestly thinks it deserves a Spore 2 that improves on the original game, and with todays technology and graphics I bet it would be amazing if executed properly.

I know Maxis Studio was shutdown but is there any possibility even just a small chance that Spore 2 will be a thing in the future?

Maybe a different studio picks it up? Or fans make one?

No, Spore was a financial desaster in the eyes of EA. And for a Fanbased Game ... the base is not really big and honestly ... you don't really believe that even if someone is building one, that EA would allow the port? Rather there will be world peace or God himself will walk the earth holding hands with Luzifer before we see a Spore 2. Edit: Unfortunately

Sure, as long as you can raise between 250-500K dollars to buy the rights and then another 1-2 million to make the game. 🤷‍♀️

So basically, Spore 2 will never happen?

Pretty much, it was a huge flop that lost money and drove away most of the fan base by turning evolution into Lego mix and match.

You got the point.

That's sad, I think Spore is a good and fun game, therefore it would be nice with a sequel...

Well, except EA has never sold nor licensed any IP that they own.

Which is why I usually suggest people gain controlling interest in EA (by buying 51% of their outstanding stock) if they ever want to play Spore 2.

I thought Spore actually made back its money and then some... But it wasn't the runaway success they wanted and went FAR over budget.

Or rather it wasn't a financial disaster in EA's eyes... but it hasn't come anywhere close to justifying itself for a sequel.

Still wish they would make a Spore 2 but at the same time... none of the visionaries who could make Spore 2 good would still be in it... and frankly in many ways I wish Will Wright had more creative control, because HIS idea for the game was far more interesting.

EA never released any hard numbers, but best estimates say they sold about 2 million copies across all platforms. Maxis spent somewhere around $20 million making the game, and marketing was another $20-30 million on top of that.

EA definitely lost money on Spore.

And Will Wright stated several times that EA did not rush him to release Spore or demand he change it for a "wider audience". Of course, no one believed him, but he's on the record saying so.

Anything is possible. You just have to get enough people to sign up. The demand for Spore 2 is definitely there, we just need to get everyone together and tell EA what we want. They did it for Banjo-Kazooie in Smash, we can do it for Spore 2.

Actually, speaking of... it would be totally sick to see Spore in Smash. I'm actually gonna make a Smashboards page about this right now, maybe that can drum up some support.

I totally agree. If we get Spore 2 it better be more similar to the version we saw at those E3s. Beta Spore was probably the coolest looking game in existence, I really reccomend you guys go take a peek if you haven't seen beta footage of Spore yet.

Maxis is closed. EA is busy with other games. Spore is really just done. Its old and the age alone makes is less likley for a sequel. although it would be awesome, its never going to happen. :steamsad:

There is no real demand for Spore(2), and what little demand that exists is so fractured you couldnt get a solid answer on what they wanted Spore(2) to look like.

It would have always-online DRM and would be filled with microtransactions, which has been EA's SOP since 2013.
