the galaxy data is stored in %appdata%\SPORE\Games\Game0
You can rename this folder to get Spore to regenerate the galaxy (although for best results you should also backup/restore the Pollination and associated packages in the SPORE folder as they are loosely tied to the galaxy generation also). Spore will only ever recognise the Game0 folder, so whichever folder is named that at game startup will be loaded in.
In this way, you can have multiple galaxies. It would be nice if Spore had command line options to load specific galaxy/game folders, but it doesn't seem to. :(
Good info. Thanks, vexx. I never played on Steam (EA wouldn't let us convert retail keys), so I didn't know the specifics.
And heck, even my retail install was wiped years ago after the SecurROM security holes let Conficker hijack my system and I had to format the drive and reinstall the OS.
Lost almost a decade of save files then. Got pretty good about making back-ups since.
Anyway... I ramble.
