Crysis

Question: Where does all the hate come from?
Personally, I enjoy Crysis quite a lot, not as a tech demo, but as a game. But pretty much anywhere I look on the internet (with the possible exception of professional reviewers on Metacritic) there are large numbers of people that very vocally dislike this game. People keep saying the graphics are good and the gameplay sucks-

But I like the gameplay. Crysis gives the player such a large degree of freedom, especially for one so graphically advanced for its time. The ability to modify weapons and turn invisible make for an incredibly flexible combat system. I could go on for several paragraphs praising the core mechanics.

I just don't get it, why is this game subject to such vocal hate? Why is this the poster boy for "it looks good but plays like ♥♥♥♥"? How can it be that a game with practically universal critical acclaim is almost a lost cause to defend?

Well I just got the game, and while not TOO boring, it can hardly be called a good game.

- The acting is horrible
- Gunplay seems weird (seriously, I just put 30 bullets in your back, and all you do is say "oof" and continue?)
- It's just boring, reminds me of Far Cry 2
- Aim down the sight is toggle, and toggle only? Who does that?!
- Sniping's impossible since the main character seems to have Parkinson's, judging by the sway of aim.
There may be other things, but I haven't played the game that long yet.

It was good for it's time, but then again, what did it have to compete with? It's not bad, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't stand out. I'd rate it just below mediocre.

As for the "critical acclaim": Reviewers most of the time don't know what the hell they're talking about, and will hype anything.

That's odd... 30 rounds will kill a nanosuit soldier... If all of them are hitting. Or you might be using suppressed rounds which have no range whatsoever.

As for the swaying, I'm going to assume you've used a gun in real life before. Because I'm going to be honest, the character can hold his aim and control recoil a lot better than I can. Saying the character has "Parkinson's" is actually kind of insulting when I think about it.

Of course, I actually like Far Cry 2. And people hate that for reasons I can understand better. At least you are putting some reasons behind your opinion rather than just considering it a given that Crysis "sucks."

That must be it, using the suppressed version of the AK variant. Found a scope now so I just shoot em in the face, problem solved.

While it might be about the same standing as with a real gun, lying down I've never had my gun nausiate me.

I actuall agree with all that's in the OP.

@ The gun sway whilst aiming / sniping, switching the nanosuite to "Maximum Strength" whilst aiming sures things up quite well.

Maximum strength seems to help with controlling the gun after shots, but it wont take away much, if any, sway.

I find that it does, particularly on the double zoom when sniping.

Anyway, from the manual :

This setting gives you double the strength of an un-enhanced human. The
muscular exoskeleton of the Nanosuit is activated, allowing you to lift and throw
larger objects, jump higher, cause greater damage in melee attacks and stabilise
weapons for reduced recoil and steadier aim. However, all of these features come
at a cost to suit energy.

Hmm I've noticed the reduced recoil, steadier aim I've honestly never noticed. Hold on, booting the game and double checking.

Just got done testing: The sway is exactly the same, though it sways at half the speed. It does seem to help a bit, but only in the 10x zoom, in the other scopes it's no noticable. Not exactly a worthy replacement for being able to mount your gun on a tripod on the ground or holding your breath...

dude everybodies crysis is crashing for no reason and you say its good?! it sucks!
Archlich Dec 1, 2013 @ 4:46pm
I usually don't hear people complaining about crashing, and that's not the issue. The issue is that people that can play it don't seem to like it.

Everybody on this forum. Except not everybody, only a few dozen. And it can be assumed that many of those people have something wrong with or on their pc, like faulty directx installations, drivers, or just flat out under qualified computers.

Also, nothing to do with the game itsself.

Simply the pinnacle of fps pc gaming. This and crysis warhead. Nothing else looks this good and plays as well. The gameplay is more Arma and not Call of duty. If you want to run around with a sniper rifle then learn how a sniper rifle actually works. as for crashing mine is fine, all the mods work. More likely the people complaining are running minimum spec with their skype and facebook and a load of other crap and complaining because it's the games fault.

I got the game on black friday deal, and like it so much i am now beating it in DELTA difficulty, it's immersive, jaw dropping graphics IMO, and just fun to stealth about and find different ways to kill and bully the enemies. love it and will play it for ages to come...
