2) I actually prefer the FY71 (the KPA "look-alike AK-47", as you refer to it), because it's the most versatile. I like having a suppressor, laser-sighting, grenade launcher, incendiary ammo (explosive rounds), and, when needed, a sniper scope ALL in one weapon.
From the Wikia:
3) Apparently, when they get to within a certain distance, they can see visual 'distortions' when you move slightly. They can also hear your footsteps if you're just walking (as opposed to crouching or crawling during movement). I've found that, by this time, it is normally too late to seek adequate cover, so it is best to avoid letting them get too close if you want to maintain stealth and avoid a firefight. This is especially true when playing on Delta difficulty.
It's quite possible to get through a phalanx of dozens of patrolling soldiers using a combination of the nanosuit and standard stealthy techniques, and never once triggering an alert or having to fire a single shot, even when playing on Delta. The approach to the KPA compound, where the first hostage is being held, is one example of this. Try moving through that heavily-patrolled forest without being detected on Delta. It's a worthy challenge...
4) Use laser-targeting and emphasize headshots. Even without incendiary rounds and a sniper scope, while playing on Delta, it is still quite easy. Remember: this is not a 'run and gun' type of game...
5) Screen resolution obviously will vary widely, so it doesn't matter. Tips and tricks? The only other ones I can think of at the moment are the following: always try to keep a FULL rocket launcher handy, if and when a KPA gunship shows up, and reserve it only for that. Use the grenade launcher for jeeps and such, instead. Also, always refill your grenade supply whenever you can find them, including the flash grenades. They come in handy in tight quarters sometimes.
Also whats the point in them giving you the 1st weapon on mission 1 for you to later run out of ammo and find no ammo to refill that gun?
Re: Approach to the first KPA compound: this was the topic of a recent thread on this forum. It can be accomplished either by taking the waterfall route or by using the beach entrance. Last time I played through I tried the beach entrance, using a somewhat stealthy approach, even without the need to create a diversion first (e.g. blowing up the gas station). This entrance is also a lot closer to the school where the first hostage is being held, so you can afford to be somewhat sloppy and still make it in there for the checkpoint.
Re: First weapon: I believe you're using standard issue when you first start, so before long, you're going to run out of ammo, once you go behind enemy lines (they're not exactly going to have clips of your type of ammo lying around for you pick up, are they?) Just use my above recommendation to switch to the FY71 and all will be well (in fact, it's no accident the Devs made the FY71 the most versatile, most customizable weapon available. They probably expect you to use it...).
I've read here that some people have had success running it with Win 10 and some not. My suggestion would be to scan the threads here for the standard solutions. As I mentioned earlier, it's just a graphics driver / configuration issue and not a bug in the program itself...
Don't forget, every time one of your nanosuit buddies dies, they drop theirs on the ground. For example, when you find Aztek's body early in the game, don't forget to grab the SCAR on the ground beneath him. In the next level you'll find more ammo on Jester.
If you're going in full-auto, spraying and praying, then yes, you'll definitely run out quick. Particularly in the first couple levels. Without spoiling too much, later on in the game you'll have even more allies along with you that you can scavenge ammo from, so it becomes much less of an issue.
