For those running Win 10:

Exit Steam
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crysis
Run the "runme" file as administrator
Paste the key

It works!

The messy part is to find the .exe in windows 10, as long as the searches only show the shortcuts, which doesn't work.

Works for Win7 too. Anyway, you don't need to exit Steam. I can confirm.

A note: their is an issue, similar to this on Origin either. It always asking the CD key and to login with your EA account without luck. I think you need set Origin to it's default game library, create Crysis directory or something to manage to start the game. Also on Origin it download an exe, like a ripped isntaller from disc. Need to patch up manually, same for Warhead. But you get all CE edition content!
Oh so It's a Compatibility Issue with the Current Operating Systems.
I was able to run the game on Windows 7 and that was back in 2009 and 2010 also in 2011
Reason why we need a remastered Crysis, so we can play it on todays current operating systems.

I've tried everything. It won't work for me at all. Dashes or not, it won't accept my product key no matter what. I really want to play this game, but I guess that ain't happening.

If anyone knows of a working solution, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!! :steamsad:

Exit steam, right click and run as administrator, input key.

I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it.

Thanks!!!!! Thought I might have to seek a refund until I saw this post. Worked a treat for me.
It would appear the game, even the steam version, installs SecuROM. Since Windows 10 blocks SecuROM, that may explain why the product activation fails. I got around it by running the runme.exe located in the games root directory with ADMIN rights, entering the CD Key provided by steam, the .exe then crashed, but the game ran flawlessly afterwards. I can only assume giving that .exe admin rights allows for a connection out.

If you dont believe me about SecuROM, just open regedit and search for SecuROM. Even the Crysis store page list SecuROM as included with a 50 machine activation limit

If you're pissed off like I currently am and delete crysis from your PC but also want to remove SecuROM, use this tool https://support.securom.com/removaltool.html

Thats my current theory at least...

PCGW doesnt list the Origin and Steam versions as containing SecuROM, but it clearly still installed. Maybe not fully Implemented, but its there doing something. I mean I find it odd that once Windows 10 releases, there is a surge of users having product key issues. dont ever recall having to enter a CD Key the last time Im played this on Windows 7 Home 64.

I ended up downloading Origin and activating the game through the option "redeem product code" in my game library at Origin desktop application.

I think the Steam version of the game is outdated compared to the one that can be downloaded from origin. So the activation dialog uses wrong procedures to try te activation.
1) go to EA website and log in
2) get support for crysis, and choose live chat
3) explain you bought through steam and they will manually activate and add to your EA/Origin account
4) download Origin and install
5) use Origin to download and install Crysis, NOT Steam, it does not work.
