Crysis

How Crysis 64-bit works, and how to get it to run.
Back when Crysis came out 64-bit programs were brand new and only some operating systems supported them. Any 64-bit program then had to have a 32-bit version as well.

Crysis has two "bin" (binary) folders, bin32 and bin64. Bin32 has crysis.exe, and bin64 has crysis.exe and crysis64.exe. Bin32/crysis.exe is the 32-bit version of the game, bin64/crysis64.exe is the 64-bit version of the game. bin64/crysis.exe is a launcher program which will automatically detect and select the correct version. Originally if you installed it from DVD, a shortcut to bin64/crysis.exe would be placed on your desktop, and it would automatically work on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. This is much more elegant than other games that would place two shortcuts or require special setup to run in 64-bit mode.

For some unknown reason steam and origin launches bin32/crysis.exe by default, and this creates problems on 64-bit systems. Going into the install folder and creating the correct shortcut on your desktop should fix it.

Well that would be pretty dumb, especially since you can only use DX10 for the highest settings in 64-bit if I remember correctly. I must admit I have the origin version.

What about Crysis 2 & 3? Do they have 64-bit versions?

Just a quickie, you can run dx10 on 32bit windows fine as long as it win Vista onwards.

Also as a side note the 32bit version runs fine for most people, but like everygame there are so many combinations of hardware/software out there that simply some people will get issues and compatibility issues

64bit OS's will run 32bit programs just fine. All 64bit will give you is the ability to use 512GB of ram. Kind useless.
32bit will give you 3GB (4gb rated but only 3 usable).
