Is anyone else experiencing freezes on Pc after the free lanes update?
Having returned to Starfield after a long hiatus, I have encountered a game Freeze for the first time.

In a new save, still in the early game, I was selling some loot in the are surrounding the restaurant in New Atlantis, and when coming close to the monorail station I pressed ESC so I could save and the game just froze.

The menu didn't appear, the music was still playing, and if I pressed the fire key the weapon reticle would appear, but the game was otherwise completely frozen and I had to alt-f4 out of it. This is the first time that I have experienced this problem, so I was wondering if others have also been experiencing it since the update.

The game is installed on a M.2 drive and the rest of my Pc's specs surpass the recommended ones, so I don't think the problem is hardware related (and the game files correctly validated, so it is not relatd to a botched install either), but from what I have reading it seems to be a memory related issue.

I'm not using any mods sans the official Bethesda ones, and the save being just some hours old discards direct save bloat as a culprit. I did however had 100 different saves in that play-trough (that I have now cut down to 10) could that have caused it?

These are my main specs.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor, 3401 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 (Drivers: 26.3.1)
Disk: M.2, 2T

Thanks a lot for your time.

I have not noticed any such issue. Not many bugs like old Bethesda games. I think I have had one crash after playing over 40 hours. I am running quite a few paid mods though.

I would verify game files. Then I would update all your mods in creation through the update tab in the mods. Delete them after update. Exit game and then redownload them all from the game.

Something could be out of sync game wise I suppose.
I have it all the time since the update. No mods are installed and started a new game.
1 Minute in Game and it starts. Looks like a huge memory lag for me.
I'm not experiencing any freezes or stutters with this update. Try what Mathias recommended.
After having also received answers to this question on reddit, this seems to be a somewhat recurring problem likely related to a memory issue the game has. Not everyone seems to have it, so further analysis is required.

On my end, file validation didn't find any problems.

Thanks a lot for your help!
Maybe start listing your card types and drivers.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz - RAM: 32 GB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti - VRAM: 16 GB
Geforce Driver Version 596.21

I'm okay so far.

was just going to suggest this..

also not sure how his system is reacting to some settings like maybe frame gen.

There's also a mod on Nexus called Starfield Memory Fixes
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 48GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060 12 GB
Geforce Driver Version 596.21

Even with my older card, i had no issues in Starfield
I believe the other poster trying to help may knows more. Only thing I can think of trying I would do is after you updated the drivers is do a verify on the starfield game files in steam to force a shader file update on start. I believe the game still does that. I've had problems in the past if the driver is updated and needing to force the games to reset their shaders. Not specific to starfield just in general.

Of course. I didn't have the time to post them before.

Seems to be that all of those that have no problems have Nvidia Cards, so it could be related to the AMD drivers.
One note I did a NG+ for my game and updated all my mods and such as best as I know how. So my save is pretty clean for the game I am in and I am in the earlier part of it at this point.
I'm experiencing similiar

I had barely any CTD's with Starfield before even at launch, I've had 4 in the past hour of play for example and expect more.

Some while travelling, others just in middle of dialogue.

There is no way its related to mods as this is a vanilla save, completely freshly started.
Can't start a new game or load a save in Starfield on my laptop
AMD Ryzen 7 5800H
16GB RAM
RTX 3050 TI Laptop
1 TB SSD
Clean install no Mods

I've played Starfield on this laptop before on Very Low settings but now it crashes to desktop whenever I try to load into the game.

No mods currently, I'm just trying to get it to run

I actually started having a stutter in my game I've never had before. It's in ship on certain planets. Even after disabling mods. Sent in a bug report to Bethesda. Though it's not a hard freeze more like a script started running every 3 seconds or so and causing a stutter. Could be the combo of my mods but I even turned them off except for the ship parts I had like Falkland. Though I suppose it could be my Falkland mod not sure why it would cause that though.

It's not at all locations which is odd as you would think it would be consistent.

If you notice anything Vlad like this let us know and if you are good at bug reports might shoot Bethesda some info. The more the better.
The only time I saw freezes in the game was when the collision with the Constant recently occurred. Stupid auto-acceleration after dialogue. I had to restart the game.
I haven't seen any more freezes in the game yet.
Was playing Starfield for 200+ hours without a single crash.
After FreeLanes update: constant crashes, unplayable

Yes, I played around with mods before, so did following:
  • Uninstalled Starfield, completely reverted to vanilla state as per vlad254's guide (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3199872428), re-downloaded the game
  • updated graphics driver to latest verison
  • forced rebuilding shaders
  • running game with LOW settings (formerly ran with HIGH perfectly), disabled stuff like FSR etc
  • disabled all auto saving in the game options, as some people commented this can be buggy
  • no old saves present, the saves folder is empty
No Luck

I start New Game, and I can play until the digging machine breaches through the wall, then crash.

(CPU Ryzen 5 3600, GPU AMD RX6600, 16GB RAM, fast nvme ssd; this is not a hardware problem, like I said game ran perfectly fine before FreeLanes update)

Thank you for reading my desperate cry for help :)
