I got one stealing a parked ship. There must be a chance for them to drop from any encounter with a lieutenant, I guess is the proper enemy level since they aren't bosses.

Wanted trait and the Bounty hunter captain ships often have one, Serpentis system all the Va'ruun kills have a chance to drop. I find them in most end of dungeon chests. Plenty of places to get the astra, just the amount at a time is kinda lacking imo with only 1 at a time

Part of the Trackers aliance quest, it has a free basegame function and it wil see extra missions trough the Creations store. Im sure while we now have 1 trackers aliance mission but later on im sure the free part too it wil see expansion as well. With the astra your able to trade them for

1 astra random blue gear
2 astra epic random purple gear
3 aster legendary random yellow gear

'Boss' chest loots list got the following added this patch:
['Eval as stack' flag] 5% 2x Astra, 50% 1x Astra
There are also some boss enemies that can drop Astra (75% to have the astra list above)

One of the 'boss' chest loot lists is used for medium/large captain stashes.
One of 'boss' chest loot lists is used for 10 minor (repeatable) 'quests', such as:
You know when you go on a smuggler ship and tell him you are there to pick up the package?
That uses the industrial boss chest loot list for what he hands you - he can give you Astra now.

I got one doing the lunar part of the main quest for artifacts. So they must appear randomly anywhere.

Pokemon, basically.

Just open the CK, load SFBGS003 and your player home, player starting bonus, or some other suitable mod, search the Items category for Astra, and add a bunch of them to a chest. No in-game farming required (which some toad will patch out).

They don't seem to be overly rate.

I have a question though, does Astra appear on the maps at all as in the environment like the credit chips do?

Yes, absolutely. I have 13 spread out over a few days of play, I got most of them in about 8 hours of game time.

They have a chance to spawn in "boss/end-level" containers. I don't think I have found any aboard a ship I've raided, but I can't say for sure. I've probably done 20 or 30 ship boardings since the content dropped. I also found 1 fighting the Starborn.

All this is in board Kill the X missions, I think I got 1 in the first vae victus repeatable.

You mean as something you pick up? No, it's always in a container.

I've only ever found them as loot. In chests, on corpses.
