Radiant AI?
I remember when Bethesda introduced Radiant AI with its Creation Engine, way for NPC to behave like real characters. They would have their schedules and decide on how to aproach each task on it based on their current status. I feel like Starfield has no such thing. NPC´s just stand on one place day and night, have no real schedule and just feel... unalive. Is it just me or do more people think both radiance and ai kinda failed to transfer to CE2?

yeah, they went too hard with the random npcs instead of blending them in with named ones who have homes, lives, etc

Yup, pretty much.

Another one of those "Really Bethesda?!" moments for me. :steamfacepalm:

But even named NPC´s dont feel any better. Especially Quest givers like Commander Tuala just stand around never moving. Some at least somewhat pace around buildings theyre in, like Constellarion members, but some just spawn into their predestined location and pose and stay there until you move story, then they move to new location and stay there until you set another trigger.

To be fair Skyrim 'schedules' were not that interesting. All it really did was ensure you could never find the NPC you were looking for unless the quest marked them.

I don't understand the point of Tuala, the guy could be replaced by a mission board. He gives repeatable missions after you complete UCS quest but instead of just getting the quests like with a normal mission board, there are pointless identical lines of dialogue with this Muppet.

Radiant quests are not only repeatable quests but ones that spawn from a template of quests. The repeatable quests need not be Radiant quests.

I think Radiant AI was just completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ due to CE2 being built off of Fallout 76, rather than Fallout 4.

Explains a lot really, photo mode (and loading screens only showing your photos, rank and name), dialogue, gunplay, UI, no precombines, pbr, ingame graphics settings, etc.

I was playing another game that uses an AI for npc voice communication during the game.
It suggested to me I should order pizza today.

Thing is I heard about the food delivery business is aiming at gamers for their customer base they lost when covid ended.

Makes me think about that AI is playing me.

Meh. NPC schedules came in with Ultima... VII, was it? Or earlier? It was mostly just annoying.

What would NPC schedules even look like on Jemison? What hours do people keep to?

What AI? In Creation Engine everything is scripted or modeled manually, like in 90'.

in Starfield it's more like Retarded AI

AR, artificial retardation.

The only issue I could see with having the AI follow 'radiant' schedules is that there are now multiple planets each with their own time. It might be frustrating as a player to visit a shop and find out they are not available. In previous Bethesda games there was only one time-zone to worry about. This is my guess as to why they implemented it the way they did.
Minoris Oct 18, 2023 @ 12:26am
My guess (or my hope?) is they ditched it for this game because the scale and different time zones/scales on every planet was getting too messed up for it to be worth it, but will keep it for ES6. I hope so anyways. I mean we don't have access to every building and can't open every door this time around. Not to mention the random citizens just milling about...

Oddly enough what annoys me more than the ditching of Radiant AI is the way the writers handled shop keepers. Why is everyone the owner of the shops they work in? Sure it makes sense for CJs, maybe even Jemison Mercantile I guess, but most shops look like massive businesses who should have at least a dozen employees, but Bobby Owner is there behind his counter sweeping the floor with his broom. Annoys me to no end somehow. Such a minor detail, I know...

I am sure that Radiant AI is still around. There is more to it than schedules. Even an NPC standing around seeming to do nothing is made to do so by Radiant AI.
