the mini game for lockpicking is the most annoying ever in the history of games
can I please have the Skyrim or Fallout one back. WTF

I have 4 lockpicks and try an EASY lock.
I have already the first skill level of lockpicking.
at the 4th pick, I fail. obviously the set is not correct for the lock.
then I abandon the try.
All 4 lockpicks are gone.
WTF devs.

use q to see which picks fit choose the one closest to the lock pattern on screen.

I don't like it. Lock picking is much better in Fallout 4. So in Starfield, I solved the issue with them by using the console to open locked containers, doors and terminals. NP since I could not care less about achievements.

Are you sure you're 51?

to me its not a 'bad' mechanic necessarily, but its WAY over used

after the 100th time i opened some random box just to get some basic item i started using a mod - if they had made it specific to say the safes and a few 'locked' doors it would be ok
they just added it too the rng maybe? idk but it gets annoying and feels like a time sink considering the majority of time you do it you dont get anything other than base level loot
at level 70+ i dont bother opening them most of the time, i only loot high end stuff and they take too much time to even look since i dont really need the loot and the chance of getting somthing really good seems no better than any other container

I don't bother. I quit trying and just skip any locked boxes. Doesn't seem to be anything worth the trouble in them either.

The problem is, some quests require you to use it to open ether a terminal or a door. Novice level locks are not that bad. But still can be annoying to have to spend the time to do it when it is required. Which I don't waste my time. Thankfully the use of the console comes to the rescue for such bad game designs.

I've been picking locks since Morrowind and personally I find this one to absolutely be the best. It actually requires *logical thinking.* Personally I find F3/F4's to be the worst and Oblivion's to be too easy (even a master was no match). In Starfield a master level is actually a challenge.

Absolutely. It's over used and usually not worth the effort, but the puzzle itself is by far the best lock-picking in any game that i can remember.

for me it is the best lockpicking minigame ever! much better than Oblivion´s ....it is a puzzle and I like puzzles

I didn't mind it but i wish the perk for the last level of lockpicking was to auto resolve the easier tier of locks just to make it quicker.
Also did you keep resetting while lockpicking? Because it only uses 1 pick per lock.

I like the puzzle approach because it proves I don’t have dementia, right? I am kind of sick of the time requirement. Does the mod just auto chose the selection that fits for that ring?

The lockpicking game in Kingdom Come was pretty damned annoying

I'm 51 and find the lock picking game to be too easy and wish they made it more complicated but i agree they use it too much or they should make it an auto success for some locks if you have enough skill levels in lock picking.

Apparently you never played HIllsfar on the Commodore 64. That was the worst lockpicking mini-game I have ever played.

Agreed. That is the main point for any lockpicking game in any game:
as soon as you are experienced in level (i.e. expert lockpicker), all easy locks must be automatically opened. this makes totally sense. everything else in gameplay mechanics is an annoyance.
