Typically you need to go down to the system indicated, and land on each planet and either look for "Life Signs" or "Natural" points of interest and head to them and do a scan on what you find.
If you go to a planet and it doesn't have any circles with ? in them (Traits), that means the planet doesn't have any traits like Turbulent Lithosphere and can be skipped.
