Yeah, gaming is for everyone. Why would women need to come here to say "I am OK"? If they are OK they are. They don't need to come here to get some sort of permission to be gaming.
Best way is poll, without them gave up their user name, Most female prefer unknown and hide so they can enjoy in peace, as far as I'm aware.

Women tend to get harassed in male dominated arenas, such as gaming, so many of them probably don’t want to announce to everyone their gender. Was the OP point, I believe. Now, why they are asking women to announce themselves, I have no clue. Sounds pretty fishy.
Gamergate showed that women in gaming are still heavily prejudiced against and abused by idiots. Things have gotten better since then, but even still...
