Am I insane, or is the UC Xenowarfare division just dumb? (Vanguard quest SPOILERS)
Ok, in case you haven't figured it out yet, Heatleeches are baby Terrormorphs.

As for me, I guessed it as soon as Hadrian started talking about how Terrromorphs always mysteriously appear around human settlements, but usually only after a century or so after a colony is first established.

I thought to myself, "what's ugly as hell, can be found on nearly every inhabited planet you visit, and is known to stow away on human ships?"

Heatleeches

Of course, my ACTUAL guess was more along the lines of Heatleeches being like the Facehuggers from Alien and infecting humans, and that Terrormorphs were actually former humans (hence the weird voices you hear when fighting them)

Anyway, if me, an average gamer of (below?)average intelligence was able to make the connection almost immediately, how is it that the UC's Xenowarfare division wasn't able to figure it out after actively researching Terrormorphs for over a decade?

they DID. then the man in charge bombed the hell out of the place that had the proof along with everyone who knew just to keep that information from getting out. He slaughtered untold numbers of civilians, and his own soldiers, just to hide that fact. under normal circumstances it takes a long time, but there they discovered a way in which they mature almost instantly into terrormorphs. Imagine the repercussions if knowledge of that fact got out. it would be a weapon of mass destruction unlike any other.

Some people dont guess it is because this is Bethesda. Oh another heat leeches.... I guess Todd Howard is being lazy again. Is this another recycle assets? Have I seen this creature before? Yeah probably so. Anyway.... let me survey this planet and move on to another.

I never agree that Bethesda game should stick to randomly generated content. There is no lore to it, it dont even make any sense and when half of the planet dont even make any sense you stop caring about lore completely. Which is why I dont remember any Bethesda storytelling that disappoint me this much in all of the previous game.

Lets put it this way, 1 planet should not have only 4-5 creatures, there should be hundreds if not thousands at the very least. From Vanguard point of view, surveying a planet is not really their thing. So it is not going to be that obvious for them. It is to us because we dont have that many suspect anyway. It is like watching a mystery movie but you only have 3 possible suspects.

Those guys weren't actually Xenowarfare - they just happened to be on Londonium during the Lazarus Plant bloom and witnessed the instant-transformation effect.

In other words, those people just happened to see it happen - they weren't studying terrormorphs or anything of the sort.

I figured the xenogrubs that seem to appear hidden away in random areas were related to them. But they don't seem to be related to anything.

No lore? are you off your rocker? that's Bethesda's strong point. I don't even understand how you can say that with a straight face. Daggerfall used procgen massively, a ton of the Elder Scrolls lore is from that game. perhaps the lore isn't presented in the way you want it presented, but to say there is no lore in Starfield is just bizarre.

I was thinking the same thing! I was honestly surprised that I never found any quests related to them.

I assumed the xenogrubs turned into heatleeches
