Great Laredo Caper difficulties

The main problem is the "wait until midnight". With the quest flagged, I'm shown where to wait for the thief, but no way to Wait, there. I have to find place to sit down in order to Wait (B key). So I Wait there until 23:something Local Time. and walk over to the designated location... and nothing happens. So I go back to the nearby stool (in the shop next to Laredo) and discover it's already 4:37 Local Time. Four hours to walk less than 20 steps?

So I Load that last Save and Wait until it's about 22:00 Local Time. Go to the designated spot, twiddle my thumbs, walk in circles = no thief.

Is there a way to FORCE the encounter?

I've done it several times and never had an issue. Is there another quest that has a step that needs completed?

Maybe try going there exactly at midnight or a few or several minutes after midnight.

I go there “when it’s kinda real dark” (I don’t look at my watch lol) and it usually works. 22pm is too early. Try after midnight.

Trying to get the timing just right is difficult.

I'll keep trying to get the timing right, but I'm not holding my breath.

ADDENDA: Finally finished this. Truly weird time passage mechanic. I sat down at 14:00 to Wait. It _should_ have required 9-10 hours to get to midnight. Instead, I Waited only ONE hour, and BAM, it's midnight at Laredo.

I tested it out. It works as long as you go there after midnight local time (not UT). I went there 01:30 local time and it worked. If you get there before midnight, it doesn't work. So, basically, you don't have to get it exactly at midnight, one to three hours after midnight also works.

One of my fails was when it was @04:00. So I'm guessing the window is something like after midnight, but before 02:00.
