Help with the "Revelation" quest.

In this quest you need to defeat the Starborn Ships. I chose(maybe stupidly) to fight both of them. The thing is I am level 36 and have an upgraded frontier, but they absolutely destroy me. I barely can do damage to them. To just move alone with the main story, I even dropped the difficulty down to very easy for both ship damage and damage to my ship. Still I can't beat them. What am I missing?

Need better weapons. Particle beams are where its at. Don't need to lock on, and some have range over 4K meters.... They also do the best damage... to shields AND hull.

Yup. They are restricted by your reactor class, and some are locked behind faction quests. The Vanguard Obliterators are the very best, but, need to have done at least the initial quest for them.

at level 36...
Assurance SG-1800 Shield Generator seems prudent
SF30 Sheared Flow Reactor

and a set of something like these weapons
PBO-300 Auto Alpha Beam

should get it done. If you have enough power left over (assuming zeroed out grav drive and minimal number of engines) to support more weapons, put in as many particle beam turrets as you can power fully.

So i can't really continue in the main story? I kind of want to just get it done and figure out what the hell is even going on in this game. I heard though it gets way better after you beat the SP.

You probably just need to spend 10-15 min rebuilding your ship properly. See my above thoughts on what you can use at your level to get the job done.

However if you got this high a level and can't use C class reactors or the exotic ship parts (both from perks in the skill tree) building a proper ship may be difficult until you can either do that or use higher level parts. I forget exactly how tough those 2 are, but they are not at all tough if you focused on ships early in the game. A class ships are notably weaker than the others and B class ships can't get a real reactor until much higher levels, and that reactor severely limits your shield & weapon loadouts, making combat that much harder.

I have a "Star Eagle" and looks like I was able to equipped the Alpha beams, but now it's saying I need to upgrade my grav drive so I can warp to Massada. However, I upgraded the Grav drive to the max. Any idea how i can get around that?

you need 30 jump range, which is done by reducing the weight of the ship or increasing the thrust of the grav drive. Perhaps this B class: RD-3000 Beta Grav Drive

most people want a C class ship (the big reactors) because then you can use ANY part (A, B or C) for any role. B class lets you use B and A.
around level 20 C class ships are out and away the strongest because the B class reactors lag way behind and don't catch up until you are around level 50 or 60, and A class across the board is junk with the exception of the fastest engines (but they can't handle much weight!). B class offers solid builds late game but early on, not so good. And very late game B class may not be good enough when you start seeing level 75+ ships, or if you want to take on certain special ships.

Regardless, manually upgrading the star eagle to a C class with a good shield, weapons, and grav drive should be fairly doable, if you need more help keep asking.. its a very easy to upgrade ship unlike many others (the razorleaf is just frustrating to fix, as is the kitchen sink jungle gym).

Here is one of my most recent ships, and its just a B class, broken up so you can see exactly how to build it. But this one has the endgame B class reactor, so you will not be able to get all those exact parts... its just an example of what is possible. A C class can haul more weight (but move slower), power more systems (probably turrets), and slot better weapons but this ship got me to level 100 without any real problems.

If you can get to Paradiso with lots of credits, you can get the Abyss Trekker. It is a powerful class C ship and is a good start for making your tank.

Thanks I just upgraded the star eagle with a grav drive and those weapons you told me to use worked as well. I think I have one last mission in the game. Idk if I will play this game much more past that so idk if I will get to level 100.
