DLSS Frame Gen uses twice the frequency turned on now.
When I use Frame Gen with DLSS DLAA settings my 4090 runs at 2750 Mhz when I turn Frame Gen off it runs at 1100-1300 Mhz and ten C cooler of course lol. Is it Starfield or Nvidia drivers?

what FPS are you getting and do you have the frame rate locked?

Set a framerate cap for twice your monitor's frequency and turn Vsync off. This should improve the load of your GPU and CPU. At least that's what's showing on my system, if I don't do it I get temps +10.+15 higher for both although I have a weaker RTX 5070. But DLSS is not a factor for me because I play at 1080p.

I am running 1440P synced at 60fps. I sync because I want my 4090 to last running 175 fps does not make this game any better. I was just curious why this is the only game to do that like the frame gen switch is backwards. Cyberpunk and Hogwarts do Not do this, the frame gen causes less GPU usage not more and that is proper lol.
So nvidia has always recommended setting gpu power to high performance. You have it set to Global default Normal mode. And that's fine. Usually best to change it to High performance for games. Now with Framegen it uses Reflex. If you use normal power setting it supposed to stay at normal power. Reflex+Boost is supposed to put it in high performance mode. I just tried both settings and it's high performance with either setting. So either i misunderstood what reflex is supposed to do or the driver and or the game's setting isn't working correctly. -edit- looks like i misunderstood what it does.

And note i have vsync enabled in nvapp. I'd expect gpu usage to drop significantly with fps at 60 and framegen On. It uses 133watts No framegen to 212watts with framegen On. I also forced frmaegen to use latest model 310.2.0 to see if that would help. Not really any difference vs 3.5.10 except gpu mhz did drop to 2200mhz vs 2820mhz previously with framagen on and 1620mhz with it off.

So when did they break framegen? It worked perfectly before. I'm going with Nvidia as being at fault here using 570+ drivers as it's the cause of many issues. 566.36 is the fallback driver to use unless you have a 50xx series gpu.

Ok i disabled vsync in nvidia app and tried instead limit fps to 60 and now fg 3.5.10 dropped watts to 100 and mhz to 1660. fg 310.2.0 dropped watts to 98 and mhz to 1140. So that works well. So that works well with either 3.5.10 fg file or better 310.2.0. I forced 310 via nvprofileinspector instead of swapping files or using tools like dlss swapper. Forcing vsync is bad since 570+ drivers came out. So do as i did and just limit fps in nvapp. I typically limit mine to 4 above my refresh to lower screen tearing. So i use either 64 or 66fps. The last usually because i prefer the number 66. Here's a pic at 60fps. And note gpu mhz is now lower then with frmagen Off. So gpu temps are now lower as well. So basically working how it should doing it this way.
