Thanks for the tip on Stroud Premium Edition - I've always wanted elevators and proper stairwells. The ladders just don't seem appropriate for a flagship.
They're nice huge stairwells up to 5 stories, & the elevators work great too, also am a big fan of their habs customizing, the mess hall 3x3 with giant panoramic roof window is sweet, as are all the other things they made, it fits perfect with the vanilla Stroud parts.
Im going to test Place Doors Yourself today, im excited for flow control on huge builds. I have ways without it, but it means I need a bunch of empty hull parts to force it not to put doors in odd places, its fine for vanilla, but adding a ton of custom habs warrants needing some extra level of control.
This is seriously way too much fun! lol I've always wanted a game like this, Mass Effect used to be my favorite space games, but they're extremely limited in scope & intractability, only Bethesda goes the extra mile, & then modders take it even farther, uniquely so with Bethesda games.
The ship & outpost building is something I wished Mass Effect had, along with being able to land on all the planets, not just probe them, it was a small scope game though.
Im still on my 1st playthru, but so far im enjoying the quests, I've spent more time tinkering & building, but thats usually what I like most, I love a good sandbox, & to mod, I do 3d art, animation, & blender stuff, so creative things are my wheelhouse.
I think they did a fantastic job though, there's an enormous amount of quests & content, & the main story is compelling enough for me to keep exploring & see where it leads, more DLC will come & spice things up before too long I bet, as well as more updates to the core game, & of course more mods.
Ladders... I just keep it on one level mostly. Don't need big habs, since the crew does not use anything you provide other than a chair or bed. I put a gun range in one ship and all I got was sarah telling me to stop shooting.
The Stroud Premium one on Nexus mentioned above has them, they sit & relax by the fireplaces, & do many other things in the habs, certain elite crew even have their own private rooms only they use. Im working on a new mod that uses NPC interaction markers too, but it will be a while before im done, since I have to create custom animations & custom objects. I'll have simpler mods out sooner im sure lol...
Edit: Ill check out those Tayio habs too, thanks for the tip.
I think ill snag that mod that lets us save unfinished ships too, I noticed when building the huge one I wanted to just take a break, had to just go back in saves because I didnt want to save a 1.3 million credit beast that I didnt like the interior.
I can say that I was using Matilja's mod for a couple of playthrough's on 2 different load orders and there was a lot i liked about the mod but also some things I didn't like. Now they've since updated the mod several times so I'm contemplating trying again on veer's recommendation. Then I just saw some big red letters on the mod page when I went to grab the link so that looks like a part of the mod's features i would not use.
Anyway ship building is a blast in this game so make sure you add some screenshots as you go. Enjoy and Happy New Year to you and yours.
Edit: and I see they have a patch for PDY + Matilija's as well.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely download that one too, looking at it now, it has great unique pieces to add to the mix, seems like an essential addition. I love to mix & match different parts for something unique, so its a perfect fit.
I love the ship building, im glad Bethesda decided to add that mechanic, & the modders are having a hayday with it too. Most of my added mods now are related to ship & outpost building, its too much fun to tinker & play around with, I have similar fun with Fallout 4, settlement building can be a blast with the right mods.
Imm also hoping that Bethesda release an Outpost addition, its a perfect fit for a DLC for those of us who love it, they could also include free along with it some tweaks to ui & object placement, that'd be the best, but modders will if they don't. They could do a lot with defending bases & settlements, tons of fun gameplay to be had in those mechanics.
SameOldBard on Nexus has mods to bring some features already, like a settlement recruitment beacon & jobs for settlers, I got it yesterday, but not tested yet, he has others as well, & they all look excellent.
I don't know much about Buildbits so I'll have to look into it but at first glance I see it was made pre-Creation Kit and I make it a habit not to use those mods. The good news is yes I see the mod author recognizes that and has even mentioned the Creation Kit being released might warrant them to do an update. I'll track that once thanks.
As far as SameOld Bard's mods yes I've used them including the Beacon which did work although those new recruits just stood around, then some did disappear. Another mod I hope the author updates as it's something that can obviously be very useful if tweaked.
btw not sure if that patch[www.nexusmods.com] for PDY and Matilija's will work with Matilija's latest version so beware to test as you go.
Its doing console commands with a handy ui, it runs separate from the game, her main focus was decorating, but it has the ui for movement & rotation too. It works & is faster than typing out the console commands yourself. She said she wants to update it & use CK though, thats why I suggested she look at Place Anywhere from Fallout 4, its a solid reference to go on being the same engine, & close to same settlement building setup.
Ill be sure to check the compatibility on PDY, Matiilija may have just included the keyword, it doesnt make it incompatible with other mods to have it there, but automatically makes it compatible with PDY, I downloaded it, but ive not tested yet.
Happy New Year
