How do you know which planet to go to to find creatures?

In general? Scan and check to see how many under Fauna (Creatures). It will tell you in general how many types there are, but you will need to land to see specifics.

Are you looking for a specific type?

Edit: You are going to want to target Temperate type worlds. Not Barrens, frozen, inferno's, Gas, etc.

You will also need to land in the different biomes because some creatures aren't in all the biomes.

Depends on the creature. If you want to hunt the most dangerous game of them all, you should visit the major cities.
