Is siding with the crimson fleet worth it ?
It breaks many repeatable quests, so are there any pros picking them over SysDef?

Frankly, while I sided with SYSDEF in my original game I disliked the commander what’s-his-name and his lapdog former Fleet member girlboss assistant too much to enjoy their company. They did not even have the decency to show up on time when SHTF. That was a hell of a dogfight, with SYSDEF taking its sweet time. I understand that the same “he was inadvertently detained” thing would’ve happened if I sided with the Fleet but the Fleet is a bunch of selfish, undisciplined pirates, stuff like that should be expected when you join the pirates. That said, siding with the Fleet means I cannot clear out hundreds of random structures on the planets for loot and xp, which is unacceptable, especially when some npc who fancy themselves tough pirate chicks keep telling my armed to the teeth char, “it’s good you are in the Fleet, otherwise I would have killed you already.” No, you wouldn’t, you silly goose. You are a dead body type 2 walking.

I am on my Ng+9 and tonight I will finally reach Ng+10. Not sure I want to side with the CF for my permanent sandbox. I am actually looking forward to murdering Naeva who will eventually show up in some future epic DLC.

In the future I am planning to create a character with a Va-Ruun background. It should be fun invoking Great Serpent and its wisdom/wrath every chance I get and see how inclusive and accommodating the UC can be. Bethesda did a good job with all the unique dialogue options related to the chosen background.

To be fair, a lot of that is idle/alt-tab time. But yeah I did uninstall it just now after that choice mission (Eye vs. Lodge) when Andreja supposedly critically wounded just got up after pressing E. It was the final insult.

Weird that you're still racking up time in it since then.

You bumped a nearly two week old topic for that? Wow i must be living rent-free in someone's head. You should find better ways to spend your time.

And in-case you think this is me "coping", Starfield is a nice CPU workout, im using it to test an undervolt. Idiot.

Do I actually have to pick one? I'm quite happy staying out of other peoples' problems. Made something of a career of it in Elder Scrolls games... never picking a faction/house, never joining the Stormcloaks or Empire, and still finishing the games with thousands of hours of play time.

Basically. They become a major threat.

they won't attack you directly out in the wild w/ a bounty but i get stopped and my bounty called up any time i enter the key. that's the only negative i've found so far.
You're part of the fleet. It makes sense that you could simply walk in and take your man. How is that immersion breaking? It's actually above and beyond what most game developers would implement.

Yeah, I mean, you didn't have to fight that base full of enemies... because you are on their side. It kind of makes sense?

I joined the Fleet a little while ago (did the prison mission), and haven't done the rescue Barrett mission until now (190 hours in lol), but instead of using the Crimson Fleet line to talk Barrett out without a fight, I used persuasion.

So leaving Matsura and the other Crimson Fleet members here alive will not have negative consequences towards them later? Do we meet these guys (Matsura and his bodyguards) later in the game, who will then recognize me and 'turn me in' to Delgado or others?

I killed all the guys outside the base, but they were called labeled 'pirates', not Crimson Fleet. Except for the robot, which I hacked and activated, and is now walking around as a Crimson Fleet robot.

Would be nice to know before I play too much longer (although I'm going to bed now) so any tips appreciated! I'd have no problems killing Matsura and his bodyguards, I guess, so can always reload the game, but it was a bit cool that they let us go, I thought.

You can ignore them all.

I hit Matsura in the face with an explosive heavy weapon when rescuing Barrett. Which made Barrett's jaw drop since the guy was being so pleasant.

Both Barrett and the game might have forgotten that Matsura and his people killed all my co-workers. But I sure as hell didn't.

Had no effect on the Fleet plotline.

That’s not the point of the question though and that’s not true. Siding with the crimson changes a lot gameplay wise

In Ng+ all your items and anything you did save for powers/char levels and perks learned is wiped. I'd just do the pirate faction LAST, so that after your done with it you can side with sys def and they go back to being enemies again. As having them as allies, basically makes a 25% chance (there is only 4 enemy factions u fight against in most pois) that the enemies will be friendly. Its really bad planning on Beth's part that they have it like this with how common pirates are.

You can always make them enemy again by shooting them. You just wont be able to use The Key while you have a bounty with them.

Especially since they could have just added a line of code - "if crimson fleet side was chosen, then reroll for 1/3 other choices" for enemy generation

Having sided with the crimson fleet myself, its pretty useless. I mainly sided with them cause of the multiple vendors in one spot, with one of them having 12.5k credits and I sided with them for the special ship parts. Ironically, I never felt the need for the cash after completing the quest-line, so that was useless. Actually money in the game seems pretty useless after getting a class C ship. None of the vendors I have ever visited has had anything above rare quality, you get free housing for completing the terramorph quests, ammo isn't even a problem to find either. So far I haven't found a use for my almost 1 million credits. Actually this is a cry for help, if anyone knows what I can spend money on, let me know cause I am rushing to NG+ right now, so once I complete that, ill know what to spend money on in the next game.

I don't understand why people have such an issue with running in FRIENDLY pirates that you CHOSE to align with. You don't HAVE to keep them as allies or do the side quest at all. These are all decisions that YOU make.

Thanks for that :104: I've moved on further now, so left them alive.

I had taken a mission in Akila before joining the Crimson Fleet, to help some settlers there get in contact with someone on a ship.

The ship with the person of interest was supposed to be under attack by Crimson Fleet when I got there, from the conversation with her that triggered when I jumped in, but no combat was going on, and the Crimson Fleet ships were friendly to me.

I had to initiate combat by attacking the Fleet ships to progress, and when killing the last of them, a message popped up saying "Last witness destroyed. Bounty of 15,000 removed" or something similar. That ship was about to jump away.

So if I hadn't destroyed the ship, it would have blown my cover with SysDef, and I would be hostile to the Fleet? Mission failed? Or is it possible to clear bounties from all factions from the 'bounty terminals' everywhere?

I have a few more missions to take out Crimson Fleet ships and leaders that I took from bulletin boards early in the game, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Agreed. And completely removing the Fleet from all locations wouldnt be great either. You would EXPECT to run into friendly pirates. You wanted to be with them, so, yeah. But like I said, you can always make them enemy again by simply attacking them.

Well nobody expected that siding with the crimson would butcher radiant quests. It would have taken no effort to turn "hunt x pirates" to "hunt x spacers" if you side with the crimson fleet.

It's a lazy oversight by Bethesda.

do both. Meaing make a character who does sysdef, make a character who does the fleet.
