Having trouble with 100% survey on Charybdis III?
So I spent hours looking for that last fauna on Charybdis III yesterday....

Yeah, this one is a real shocker....
I had just finished Akila with the flying mobs that were really rare, hard to see and detect. So I came back to try looking again. I caught a flash of the name Ghost Grazer....

The sparkling bit you see is from use of Sense Star Stuff power, and it only works IF it is in range.

I do quite a bit of surveying and sometimes I do miss a thing. I know what zone it is in, but can't find it so I move on.

I figure I might come back to it one day or thought maybe some of them are bugged. Maybe I just need to look more closely.

I have fully surveyed 144 planets currently. This is the first one that stumped me this hard. So I figured leave a hint with a spoiler for those wanting to end their frustration, lol.

The ones that stumped you were most likely:
- A tiny flying mob, some are rare and so high you do not see them.
- Fish, almost every planet with more than 4 fauna have a fish.
- Biome/Biome Coast having a fish. Say Swamp shows complete, but Swamp Coast has a fish. Well you tell the game to land in Swamp Coast, but game lands you in Swamp so when you exit the ship it syays complete. Go near the water (open area map and head to the area without terrain contours) and it changes to incomplete.
- Unable to find a resource, Scanners rank 4 shows you the resource deposits for extractors.

FYI, Charybdis has a good quest line with a "unique reward."
Amelia Airheart clone you can hire as a companion/pilot (Rank 2.)

The flying fauna on this planet are bugged, if you can hear their calls or wing flaps. Quicksave and then immediately Quickload. They should spawn correctly. You can also notice them with your HUD target from your weapon. They will still show as an enemy and change your reticle color. If you wander around and it changes but nothing is visible when you sight down the barrel do the save/load. Apparently when they glitch they produce a hit box in the entire z-axis so no matter where you are pointing, down angle, up angle or straight ahead, they will still trigger the reticle change.

For Jemison the problem fauna is usually one of the birds, they are kinda rare. Usually find them in the south around the mining/science POIs that are on the map by default.
Considering how underutilized the water is, It took me more time than I'm willing to admit to realize that some oceans do contain unique fauna, some of it actually shockingly large. (Like the size of a Skyrim Dragon)

Yeah the biggest trick to finding out if there is water fauna is to "zone into" a beach area and see if the numbers change. In order to do that you land in a "shore area" then open the map and head towards the flat contoured area, because you cannot land in a shore zone because it has no landing sites.

It also has two unique locations that some troll on this forum tried to tell me are completely not unique /facepalm. As if I wouldn't notice after nearly 700 hours in game, right?

It's interesting, though it can also get bugged where the faction you chose decides to attack you anyway...so, I've chosen to end the project more than once...

The planet map shows you the percent explored. If everything is near 100%, check the oceans. I have not seen a creature in a cave that is not on land like you see in NMS, but I guess it could be possible. The ocean ones are annoying and don't fit into the game. I think this part of the game was either left unfinished, pushed back to a possible DLC or removed somehow. I think they wanted swimming to be more a part of the game from the looks of it, but it is very under-cooked at the moment.

bethesda broke the percentage showing on most of the planets though, it works on alantis city planet for example but its not working on many others for some reason

same issue this guy here has

There is a bug, but it is rarer than you think.

There is some planets that have fauna which are not assigned to a zone. There has only been a few of them from what I have seen. Most of them are water ones that were never assign zones.

What a lot of people make the mistake on is the water fauna.
- They see they have 91% on forest shore.
- They pick a forest shore to land on.
- The game lands them in forest, not forest shore and then they see forest is at 100% scanned. They have not figured out the zone issue yet.

As I explained earlier, you cannot land in a shore zone because there is no landing sites inside the shore zones.

I think overall, there is only three planets that cannot be fully surveyed.
- Misada III (fish mob does not spawn)
- Beta Ternion something. (wanna say that one is a plant?)
- Charybdois II (another fish issue I think)

Overall I think that is pretty excellent considering how many NMS planets could not be completed despite spending days searching.

Find me a screenshot of a landing zone in a coastal zone.
