I went from a RX 7900 XTX to a RTX 3060 (because of a hardware issue)...
I won't go into why, but I had to switch back to my RTX 3060 and I went from about 70fps at ultra graphics down to around 20fps (using the lowest settings).

That was quite a shock, I thought a 3060 should be able to play the game at the lowest settings, but it really is unplayable.

I know there has been a DLSS mod, I'm going to try that later and see if that helps.

Does anybody know of any other mods that help with performance?

There's one on nexus that's more ini tweak than mod but it reportedly helps. Forget the name but if you sort by popularity it's at or near the top.

The size of your vram is a major consideration .

I play on a 3080TI with an average of 60 FPS on ULTRA but only in FullHD. A 3060 only has a third of the SHADERs and is otherwise clocked a little lower. I still find 20 FPS a bit too low. Are you sure that the CPU isn't the bottleneck? Or the textures overfill the card's RAM and the PC's memory is connected too slowly.

The comment serves only as a food for thought. Personally, I would switch to the other card if it made that much of a difference in my current favorite game.

My CPU is a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, so that should be enough for the lowest settings. If it isn't then they really need to update their lowest specs for the game.

The 3060 has 12GB and I'm using the lowest settings. So surely 12GB is enough?

Ah interesting, I'll search for that, thanks :)

Wait, you thought a lower-mid card from Feb 2021 was going to be close to a Dec 2022 Top end card? In what world would that make sense when the 7900XTX smashes a 4080 in pure Raster titles.

No I had issues with the 7900XTX so had to switch to the 3060 and I didn't expect the 3060 to be close to the 7900XTX, what made you think that I said that?

I was just expecting the game to be playable on the lowest settings. Meaning 30fps at least.

20fps + massive lag was totally unexpected.

You need to lock it to 30fps if you're playing on a 3060.

A 3060 was basically a 2070/super, you're using 2017 hardware at that point. TBF, starfield is optimised like reheated ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. But yeah you downgraded massively there. i have to ask, what was the issue on your XTX? I have a 7900XT and it's been fine running over 60fps 3440x1440p

That's a good point though, there is no way he should be getting as low as 20fps in 1080p with maxed settings. It should be running 32-35FPS.

The 7900 had to be sent back due to a weird hardware glitch. I'm not 100% sure what happened.

So I'm waiting for a replacement.

The 3060 is better than the lowest specs of the game though and the lowest specs are supposed to get to you at least 30fps. Which I would be fine with for now.

So 12 GB VRam should be enough, I don't have that anymore either :-) and your CPU should actually be enough to even play at 4K, although perhaps not in ULTRA. If you compare it with the official requirements.

However, the specifications are extremely low in my opinion. It also says a 1070 and that can hardly be fun.

In theory you should be able to play the game safely in the mid-upper range.

Maybe the hardware glitch wasn't a GPU issue?

What's the issue with the 7900XTX in a AMD titled game, surely it should be working like a dream. Maybe I'll hold off on getting an AMD card. Was thinking of getting the 7900XT.

Edit: Never mind, you answered it above after I posted.
