Gameplay: So you always have at least one ship and can't strand yourself.
- though i have seen a few mention issues trying to sell it. - so i've always kept it just moved on and left it in my list. i'd sell the other 20+ i'd.. acquired over my play..
This right here pretty much. yeah your the captain of it, but you don't have to own the ship to be able to fly it, just need permission from the owner and in this case Constelation owns that ship and is allowing you to use it.
The technical reason being: You need at least one non-empty ship slot (pointer to home ship can not be NIL)
(edit: ups, I see some already pointed that out.
The game already prevents you from selling your designated homeship.
The story reason is really it.
You can modify it like any other ship.
