So you MUST keep all materials in your cargo or inventory in order to craft????
Is there really no better way to store things?

If you build an outpost with crafting stations and store your materials in the various storage containers you can craft and it will pull from the containers.
If you don't want to make an outpost your home base then yes, you're sol.
Or you could use the Lodge and its infinite storage which is surrounded by crafting stations.
The Lodge definitely works if you don't want to mess with outposts. I only built an outpost to reduce the number of loading screens between me and crafting/storing my stuff. Instead of 2 loading screens (Jemison, then Lodge) I only have 1 to my outpost.
My complaint is that I took the traits for the apartments, but when I can't even pull from storage in the apartments themselves to craft there, it means they're pretty useless as a home base.
player.setav carryweight [value]
I do not like having a limit to what I can pick up so call it cheating but it's a single player game and if you want to be a loot goblin you can and after playing the game for 30+ hours without using this after I used it the game was at least not forcing me to leave loot or having to constantly transfer loot all over the place.
Yeah, I ultimately resorted to that too, I just hate carrying 1000 resources around. Those mod kits can't be released soon enough for me :D

I tried this and it didn't work. I put ALL resources in the Lodge infinite storage from my ship and I went from being able to craft and research to no resources appearing in the crafting stations downstairs. If it worked I would have done it from the start.

This whole resource issue with crafting and research is very frustrating. You more or less have to forget about crafting until you can make class C ships and get enough storage. I've stopped bothering until I get all the achievements I want and then I'm just going to use the console to modify my carry weight to 20000.
so even if the stuff is in the box at the lodge u still have to remove it and place it on you cause the crafting dosn't pull from there

That's what it did for me.
None. Storage is the worst part of this game. Far worse than any other bethesda game.

Only few method exist, make dozen of storage at your homebase and just dump all the item there, if you have few thousands of rare resources, you need multiple dozen of those large storage. Another method is to bring it to those infinite container but cant really fast travel or travel from there. It is much better to make a container next to a landing pad.

Best solution, just throw away all those resources and junk. When you need it just buy it instead.
Perhaps linking the Infinite storage container to the workbenches in your stardungeon at the lodge would be a start...
That would be a good start for changes.
storage is somehow more restrictive in this game than fallout 76 at any time during it's conception (even when it first dropped and you could only put 400lbs in your base box)
