What's your opinion on the side quests?
I just wanna say first that I am enjoying the game for what it is, sadly there are a few gripes I have which have been a lil disappointing. Side quests have probably been my biggest disappointment.

When I think of RPGs, the most memorable part tends to be the wild, deep and intricate stories/characters/worlds you can come across through the side quests and I know that's a pretty common shared feeling. Elder Scrolls and Fallout are no exception there, with some memorable side quests that come up quite often in forums, video essays etc..

So when Starfield came out I was most excited to see what kind of wild side quests we would get especially with how large of a world there was to use for them, unfortunately this has been a pretty major let down for me, I don't know if everyone will agree with me but I have now done 104 side quests, and I can only think of a couple which made me really think 'yeah this is a side quest someone put thought and care into'. Admittedly I have not done much of the faction quest lines yet which I have heard are better, it's just a real shame that my experience so far has been 90% fetch quests and the rest felt like they ended too early or could have taken really interesting turns but didn't

I guess this is a bit of a rant but I am also interested to hear if people feel the same way, hell, if people are further into the game than I am and can vouch that the side quests do become better then hey that would be great, but after 100+ I think I have a general idea of how the side quests are.

I should have probably mentioned I have basically not touched the main story yet

If you don't like the side quests, wait for the main story quest.. *evil laughter*

Its hit and miss but some side quests are really cool

Side quests are great, main quest is meh, such has been the way since oblivion.

People who want to "beat" the game have a linear ~40 hour MQ while the rest of us have a 120 hour meander till we are bored with the playthrough and start again.

60 hours in, I have only completed 1 main story mission... so for me, ALL side activities are superb, not just quests.

I am mainly doing the side quests because tracking down all the dragon shouts... oops, I mean Starborn Powers, in senseless hostile planet environments over and over is boring me to death.

Not going to be the same for everyone, but I have played some memorable and fun side quests for sure. There are a hell of a lot of them, though. Maybe I have been lucky so far.

Side quests are (so far) 100% Bethesda goodness. * The main quest is a warmed over turd of story that someone forgot to take out of the microwave, and now it's all dark chewy, and slightly damp in a very unappealing way.

I've been playing in such a way that I avoid the main quest, but each step is a freaking pill of "You can't do that now..." because of the entirely composed way the main plot plays out.

"Play it your way!" means naught. This game can only be played one way, with two variations. (Also, level scaling? Makes me want to play the main quest even less.)

*By Bethesda Goodness, I mean you have a 50/50 chance to encounter a quest/level/enemy/ally that is 100% delightful and fun to play. Otherwise, you get a cheap copy/paste bit of filler.

maybe i've just had bad luck so far, seems the side quests i have done have been either fetch quest filler or felt like they ended way too early (lots of info missing etc) but we shall see

Same as any RPG.
Gopher/Fetch quests.
"Go here. Do this. Find that. Kill this. Find this item. Come back." OR get reward upon completion.
Usually, much higher in number vs the Main questline.
The Mantis and Freestar Rangers questlines were good, IMO, I haven't done much of anything else.

The Ryujin Industries questline in Neon is very satisfying if you are a stealth/social skills player. High risk with high rewards and most scenarios are fully logical.

Side quests are way better than the main quest. As per the usual.
