Question About the H and E (Main Quest Spoilers)
In my first and current playthrough, the identities of the Emissary and the Hunter were Barrett and the leader of the “church” on New Atlantis.

I’m assuming the Emissary is always who died during the Starborn attack on the Lodge/Eye. For me, I chose to go to the Eye to save the others (Vlad, Sam/Cora, Sarah, and Andreja) and returned to find Barrett dead.

So I’m assuming that if I hadn’t gone to the Eye, Sarah would’ve died and she would’ve been the Emissary right?

I’ve seen some people claim that the one who dies is the one you’ve progressed the furthest down the romance line with though.

So if I had romanced another member of Constellation besides Sarah or Barrett, would they have been the one who died and would they have been the Emissary?

What about the Hunter?

Is he ALWAYS the church leader or have people gotten someone else?

If you’ve gotten someone else, is there a certain “trigger” that determines the identity?

It's been observed that the emmisary will always be the follower you have the highest affinity with at that point in the game. It doesn't matter where they are, they will always be the one to die.

It's entirely possible to "assassinate" the follower you dislike the most by raising their affinity then triggering the quest.

This is second had information, I haven't seen it myself.

Strange.

Because I chose not to romance anyone, and I hardly ever spoke to Barrett and never took him as a companion.

Meanwhile, I think I’ve had the most interaction with Sarah (because she’s always wanting to talk) and I’ve gotten a lot of “Sarah Liked That” and “Sarah Loved That”, but I never took her as a companion either (I’m a lone wolf).

I've the highest affinity with Sarah (also married) but Berret died. And he is the Emmisary.

So I doubt that theory :D

The Hunter is always the Keeper.

The Em is always whoever died; but the game picks the companion that you have the most affinity with that is wherever you aren't.

I dont know, but for me it was.
Would also make sense from a story perspective, as the other Members are shocked that the "one dead" is still somewhat alive but a different one...

Would make no sense if the Emmisary would be someone still alive...

The Emissary for me was Sam, the follower with the least affinity I had. Then again, I had hardly any at the point and had been going around with Andreja after Neon. I would have thought if your theory was correct that it would have been her. I didn't even consider that there might have been different Emissaries and that it would have always been Sam. I guess I'll have to play through again.

Ah okay.

So if I had the highest affinity with Sarah and went to the Eye (like I did) then whoever I have the highest with back at the Lodge dies and becomes the Emissary. Whereas if I had stayed at the Lodge, Sarah would’ve died and become the Emissary.

And who all can you earn affinity with in Constellation? Sarah, Barrett, Sam, and Andreja?

Not Walter, Matteo, Noel, or Vladimir right?

Vasco? Can you earn affinity with him? I’m assuming if you can and you’ve got the highest affinity with him it just doesn’t count (though that would be funny to see Vasco as the Emissary or inexplicably stuffed into that Starborn suit).
