the vacuum is easy to keep away, as it's literally nothing
So, on one hand, we want space realism, exploration, but on the other it's "don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain" for mechanics?
Dust storms affect you when your on your space ship???
Good thing this stuff does not happen today or the space station and trips to the moon would be impossible.
There are some thing I cannot suspend my disbelief over.
That argument doesn't make sense always. You can also add lego characters into the game and call it "its a game, not realistic simulation". The game is SCI-FI that wants to be somewhat realistic and to be honest GAS getting into a space suit is not a "small detail" you can look over, its actually kind of really stupid and immersion breaking.
They actually tried to make it realistic in the sense of you rotating around the planet (being in orbit). I do think the intention of the game was to be not scifi from 1970th imagination or so.
Your issue isn't that it is "worse" than any other similar logic-defying mechanic but rather that it's simply one that you have chosen to get mentally hung up on. Making it a choice you have made , even if only subconsciously.
Take my encumbrance example. I can carry over 50 extra space suit helmets in the game without any issues at all. Which all by itself is completely ridiculous. No person would be able to carry 50 spacesuit helmets without it causing mobility issues.
Yet if I add one tiny marker to that pile of 50 space suit helmets, suddenly I'm encumbered. Even though it has almost no weight and I could just toss it inside one of the helmets that I'm already carrying.
Every single game ever made has completely stupid game mechanics, somewhere, if you are engaging your higher thought centers.
