No stolen items, no items marked yellow, searched the ship, companion has none, yet every time I try to land anywhere I'm pulled over for contraband. What gives? It's become a major annoyance not to mention a financial drain for no reason that i can tell.

It checks: Ship interior, ship cargo, your inventory, companion + crew inventory.

Had similar issue because I had one dropped contraband item in the cockpit that was stuck between panels in the floor. But was eventually able to grab it.

pirate ships sometimes have contraband lying around in them.

You could fast travel instead. I have a massive bounty in UC and Freestar areas so that's how I typically land in civilized areas lol. But yeah, it's likely sitting on the floor in one of your ship's rooms or something.

You can actually drop a contraband item on the floor of your ship and it will still be detected. All contraband items are marked as well in your inventory.
You need a 'shielded cargo hold' to avoid detection if anyone was wondering.

They don't care about stolen items. Only contraband.

you might have aurora which is under aid that a lot of people miss, otherwise just modify/change ship so all the stuff gets dumped in the cargo

They only take stolen items if you have contraband aboard, stolen items alone will not trigger them.

I checked/picked up every single item in my ship and my inventory and my companion's inventory. I don't have any Aurora and nothing is marked as stolen or contraband.

How do I check crew inventory? I have no control over them.

If you steal a pirate ship there's always some contraband somewhere. Best thing to do is go mod your ship. Change a color, add a part, whatever. It will put all loose items into the cargo hold and usually gets rid of the contraband.

Talk to the crew member and select the trade option, same as normal companions

When they confiscate the contraband it shows in the top right what they took. So maybe check what it is. Also it should only happen once as they take whatever you had. You can also see if you have contraband by trying to fast travel to New Atlantis for example. If the landing areas are greyed out it means you have contraband and can't just fast travel.

Or you have some weird bug. I've been stashing all my contraband on the moon. No idea why I'm keeping it, but I've got dozens of mech parts and black market organs and stuff

Some times if you borrow a ship from a pirate or eclipse they have contraband laying about on the ship or a contraband container, so it is a good idea to take a good look around on the ship after "taking it".

Why worry just take it all out of the chest when you get released and then sell it. You paid a small fee for the authorities to clean it for you arent they nice.
