Please add an option to upgrade legendary gear tiers to max
They made it all dependant on RNG to get good legendary gear. In Skyrim we could just upgrade our weapons and armor from "Basic" to "Legendary" using crafting skills. In Starfield we HAVE TO search for thousands of hours if we want the PERFECT gear.

IMO there should be an arms dealer that can upgrade our legendary gear, but for a very very high price. Or it could be even an option in the weapon workstation. It doesn't matter where.

Maybe something like this:

1. Base

2. Calibrated 25K

3. Refined 50K

4. Advanced 100K

5. Superior 200K

And you always have to pay all the tiers from the tier the gear is. So if you find a base legendary weapon you have to pay 375K to upgrade it to max tier. If you found an "Advanced" one you only have to pay 200K to upgrade it to max tier.

So the cost always doubles with each tier. Or maybe BGS can figure out another balance, or maybe they invent another currency or whatever. I honestly don't care how, but it has to be possible to upgrade legendary gear.

What do you guys think, yay or nay?

I would have liked to just have weapon crafting tbh. An expensive recipe for legendary thing that you re-roll until you get what you want. Then maybe that massive, cumbersome production chain they put in the game might feel like it mattered.

Sounds good to me.

Credits also barely matter anymore at some point. What should ppl do with it?

Sooner or later we will have a crafting mod. Until then just use the console, e.g. for armor:

itemid.amod 11e2b6 - calibrated
itemid.amod 11e2b7 - refined
itemid.amod 11e2b8 - advanced
itemid.amod 3af80 - superior

You can see the itemid by dropping the item on the floor and clicking on it with open console. Takes about 5 minutes and you will have your ultimate dream gear. Maybe jettison your resources or some legendary items if it makes you feel better to simulate a crafting process.

But mods shouldn't be needed to do such things.

I agree. But people don't remember vanilla Skyrim or vanilla Fallout 4. Those games really suck in every aspect without mods. People play Fallout 4 or Skyrim with 300 mods active and compare that to Starfield. Not going to work.

And in contrast to Skyrim or Fallout there is no "world" to discover so those shortcomings show even more. Especially New Atlantis as the starter city is a trainwreck. People should just start at Neon or Akila City.

Yeah a Skyrim with 1300+ mods will always be better than a vanilla game.

Dunno... credits might be a lost cause honestly. They just kind of happen to you over time, no matter what, and the need for consumables doesn't really eat into them.

I would prefer crafting gear/weapons than buying it just because it's slightly more interactive and gives me a reason to get into other parts of the game. Upgrades alone don't really do that I feel, given the rate at which I need them and their low cost. Plus, it means I don't need to be friendly with whatever place(s) hosts the NPCs that would do it for money.

Sure if i could upgrade my legendary gear with very rare materials and a whole lot of them, that would be okay for me too. But what would it change really, i mean if i could just buy these materials anyway?

I mean I guess in theory you can buy large quantities of mats by sleeping through the merchant restock timers if you want to get rid of credits instead of build a base. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though, and it seems like it would work better than the other way around (trying to make money for legendaries by selling crafting mats) given that even the high tier mats seemingly have no sell value.

In the end it doesn't matter if upgrading gear tier would cost money or mats.
