Locked out of my Dream Home after paying off mortgage. Bug warning, do not pay off!
This seems to be a huge bug affecting several users. Pay off the bank, they don't give you a key, and your house gets locked up with no way to get back in. Bethesda seriously needs either issue a fix, or at the very least send out a console command for a key. In the meantime don't pay it off!

As it's not listed in any of the patch notes, I'm saying not yet.

This happened to me as well, and I was not happy. Googled around and the only "fix" is to restore a saved game before you payed off loan. You have to go to house first, pay the 500 interest so the house is unlocked BEFORE you pay off loan. The bank never gives you a key when you pay the loan. So the status of whether you've been to house in last week to "unlock" it determines if you can get in. Clearly it's a bug and I hope they fix it. I was able to find a saved game so only lost an of hour of play time.

A year later, and the same bug has happened to me, so it's still a problem. Like others, I did a bunch of stuff in the game after paying off the mortgage, so going back to an earlier save really isn't an option. Does anyone know if there's a console command to unlock the house or a mod to fix this available?

Okay, I'm editing this because I finally found a forum discussion with the correct console command for this issue. It worked for me. Here's the link:

Open console, click on door, enter unlock and hit enter, close console

Thanks for this. I found console commands that redid the quest, essentially, and that worked. But it's good to see more than one solution!

Kind of reminds me of that annoying quest with the thieves' guild back in Skyrim, where Karliah simply stood there instead of opening the gate. Every.Single.Time I played that game back in vanilla, I had to use console commands to get it to work, and that was years after the game launched.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
