Slow to load and laggy after 86 hrs in
I'm 86 hrs into the game and playing just fine but when I attempt to play it today, it's slow to load the game, extremely slow to load the save file, and it's so stuttering and laggy even with the audio that I can't even play it. Any advice on how to fix this?

Did you recently add a mod in the game? If yes this is your answer.

I agree. It's been playing fine so far. No mods at all so it wouldn't be that.

But to answer, SSD, AMD Ryzen 7 4800 processor, GeForce RTX 2060

Don't forget, this could be the skyrim problem where the saves become super bloated because they have to keep all the location data of everything. I dropped a bunch of weapons outside of the lodge in my playthrough early on because I was encumbered, and then at the very end of the game, 40 hours later, they're still there

So it's tracking a LOT and if you have just a lot going on in your save, it's going to get bloated and it just...sucks

I think this was addressed later on in a patch for skyrim (and this was repeated in Fallout 4 because of course it was) so expect this to be looked at too for Starfield

Try deleting the cache in C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Starfield

I regularly cull (remove old saves) zip up, move to a backup folder and delete most of the ones in the save folder.
If you have Cloud saves or One Drive enabled IGNORE EVERYTHING I JUST SAID. I know nothing of how that would effect your saves.

This. I had sudden lags, crashes, etc, and deleting all but 10 saves fixed this. Confirmed this in Reddit, lots of saves causes crashes for several people.
