I;m having a hard time finding a planet and spot on planet that has iron and aluminum at the bare minimal...

i keep meaning to build an outpost. I put the beacon thing on Mars and a landing pad and never went back.

it can take some looking, basically you want to scan the planet and look at the resource cluster and explore around where the iron and aluminum are close to each other

I've been looking for this as well, I've found them within the same system, but never on the same planet.

Just look around, can always set up on 2 different planets. I just scout out a system with lots of planets that has at minimum

Iron
Lead
Aluminium
Titanium
Copper
HE-3
Nickel
Tungsten

Then just make sure every outpost is gathering at least 2 resources i don't already have gathered.

From your first (and maybe only one) outpost you want 2 things.

1. High time conversion ratio. The one that everybody recommends has 1:6. There is a planet with 1:60. Venus has 1:200. but you need high skill investment to be able to build on Venus.

2. The actual outpost location has to be on the intersection of two or 3 different biomes. So you can farm 3-5 resources in one place. At least until they fix cargo links (i had mine randomly turning off).

These were recommended as the best spots in an article:

Most of them are too high a level for early or mid game but even the ones that seem under 20 for example can have extreme environments.
Thanks for the link. It will be very useful when I start to build.

I mean honestly don't see the point to that. I only even bother with a single small harvester on a node pe resource. Getting 4-6 resources a minute is plenty and you don't use them fast. If you need more just sleep in a bed for an hour or two at your base and boom you have them.

I was doing that and gave up, you can link outposts together so its irrelevant. Sending it all into one mega storage. What's more relevant is finding a good system with a lot of minerals and planets in.

One tip, use the base outpost like a search tool and move it around the map before you place it. You can cover large sways of ground. Once you find a spot that has several deposits, put it down, enter build mode, and press V, then zoom out with the mouse. Then scroll over the extractors in the build list, as this highlights deposits relevant to them and allows you to scan the build area quickly, to make sure you are in a good position, and the deposits are not at the edge of the base. If they are, you can remove it and replace it to get as much as possible of them inside, or give up and choose to move on to another location entirely. You can also see any annoying restricted areas you might have.

I picked Andromas eventually for my first, as that's not on the edge of the star map like the Tau Ceti place I found (with iron/Aluminium) Andromas has got Aluminium on one temperate planet with a fuel source in the same base, and another temperate moon that has iron on it. There's a bunch of other stuff too, enough to get several minerals at once.

I use them to grind XPs by making widgets. And prefer to do it faster (in real life minutes).

If you are OK waiting while looking at bethesda's sleep timer, that's fine too.
