High Price to Pay..
Clipped one of the NC during the escape.. had to do an emergency grav jump to one of my bases to pay 50k in fines to both the UC and Freestar..

The mission game design.. for this 1 mission drops my score for Starfield to 1/10. Having to continually reload a save to try not to shoot a guy who disguises himself as a uc soldier.. to then have to fight 50 ships in orbit.. for gods sakes todd.. learn to develop a game properly.

Reminds me of the walking dead, I'm about ready to ragequit the game because my favourite character was killed off.

Judging a game for a single mission seems very petty to me.
In a fair review you consider all the pros and cons and weigh them equally.

If you had fun for 20 hours and then no fun at all for 2 hours, then you had fun for most of it and should reflect that in your score - IF you actually want to do a fair score that is.

When the line is badly written and it sours the entire book.. the entire story. The rest of the game get's 8/10.. but this one part of the game.. it's ruined the game for me. I don't even want to play it anymore.

I've spent the best part of 225 hours of gameplay with the same character alongside me and now she's gone. I feel it like she was alive. Rip I guess.

failing a mission does not mean that todd needs to learn to develop, it mean you need to get better and not shoot all out of panic, companions give you even clues when you start or are doing a mission that needs some "tact", they actually say to you, example: stealth is the better option here OR scan for the target and so on, they are not just voice lines they actually give you tips. then again if you play like RAMBO you probably don't hear all that over the shooting effects. also READING the mission info helps you a ton too.

never blame skill isue on bad game design.

Have you played this mission? There's no warnings from your crew. It's possible it's a straight up run mission and you can avoid shooting the enemy that are chasing you, but it's made harder by your crew randomly getting stuck because they're blocked by NPCs and the AI navigation is ponderous in the situation.

I agree with the OP 100% and when I first played through this mission I uninstalled the game I was so disgusted by how badly designed this mission is.

Despite having good weapons and armor it was pretty clear that the game wouldnt let me kill the Hunter and that I was being forced to run. No problem if I was on my own but when I have Cora or Noel running around like a headless chicken I feel obliged to try and protect them. One misjudged shot and the whole of New Atlantis is shooting at me!

It is the most badly designed battle sequence in a game I can remember.

The fact that the Hunter is ruthlessly trying to kill you and your friends and a little later on willing to talk and negotiate with you to win you over only adds to the stupidity.

The first time I played it through I had married Sarah which meant we had rescued Sona too.
When Sarah died at the Eye the whole sequence of events at the Eye was so fake it was equally laughable, frustrating and ridiculous.

When I next saw Sona she had zero knowledge of Sarah's death and zero reaction.

Basically I can get some fun out of exploration and shipbuilding and some of the side quests like the Vanguard/Terrormorph and the Crimson Fleet are okay but the main quest especially from this battle onwards ruins the game for me.

i hoped i could stab him in the back "sort of speak" if i was willing to work with him after all that, but sadly not the case. ohwell, i kinda knew this game was going to be bad, i lost trust ever sins the "16 times the detail" moment.

A mission or a quest or out of any mission/quest? Many quests will protect you against making friendly fire so it's not generating agro. But out of quests and perhaps in missions a friendly fire will trigger instant agro, which is often annoying. I had a case of the event of UC troop training against robots and 2 terrormorph coming, I tried help but get UC agro, then rushed flee and got minimal fine but was definitely annoying and fun event degrading in a bad one.

For land combats, the minimal would be a player options so there's a visual for enemies or that is more clear and not requesting target already. But clearly it would not stop the problems of unwanted friendly fire.

For ship combats there's two cases, blue ships as identified allies, but also white ships that aren't enemy until you shout at them. That second case could use better visual indicators and ignore friendly fire from ship moving into a missile or fire trajectory so most cases.

Yeah the objective is to shoot the hunter at least once, don't kill, just shoot him and then sprint to the ship and ignore everything else. Thankfully, in NG we're given the choice to
Skip this chapter completely
which is what I do in every NG

How do you wind up getting to the same point in NG+ that you did in the regular game? They already met you the first time. Why do they need to meet you again (and mostly say the exact same thing) as though they never met you before?

Gosh this story is bad.

If you choose to replay the MQ, at a certain point you get a dialog option to
save everyone, skipping "High Price To Play" completely
The MQ is not an example of great writing or creativity for sure. Although, there's a chapter near the end that I like a lot and its almost worth replaying the MQ to get there.

I can understand the mechanic to skip it, but that isn't the point. It doesn't make sense to see them again in the first place. It doesn't make sense for the hunter to even be alive again.

Its like time travel. The multiverse approach doesn't explain it well. But the affect is the same as if you went back in time to replay the events, like Groundhog Day.

You 'clipped' ONE and had to pay 50K credits? As a pirate I destroyed a half dozen UC ships, even boarding the last to kill the crew in person, and only got hit with a 45K bounty.

Granted, Sarah wants to have a word with me ...

"Although, there's a chapter near the end that I like a lot and its almost worth replaying the MQ to get there. "

You're no doubt referring to the story of the development of the grav drive and how it affected Earth? I agree ... and that is part of what frustrates me. With more thorough beta testing and critique I think Starfield could have have been a good game rather than a half decent one with some glaring issues.
