So once you pick on a weapon type, a lot of skills become particularly useless. But they are different set of useless skills for each weapon and energy type choice.

Most of the skills are also keyed to a particular play style. So for example if you don't bother with outposts then the outpost skills will be useless. But to someone else they will be essential.

Its the same in real life. For example I have no interest in music. So piano lessons would be useless to me, that does not mean no one should give piano lessons.

I would also argue that if you play a Bethesda RPG for just one thing, then you are missing out big time and basically rushing the content. They are best enjoyed by participating in several different things, but may that's just me.

Fun fact, when you build outpost, be sure build outpost in based of your level, like star system level is 20, make more harder, but more earning exp by build mission board in your outpost in star system 20 level, for example. Once 20 level star system are easy, shut down outpost or leave outpost, to build new outpost in higher level star system to fight harder enemies and earn more exp.

I think mission board in your outpost is based level on star system level.

Conceilment making it so you do more stealth damage is also pretty overpowered. Leveling it requires melee kills so i just kill passive fauna for that.

Concealment is overpowered because at level one it makes you entirely immune to mines, which quite a lot of locations are seeded with. And at level three it gives you a permanent, always-on Chameleon legendary effect, which is pretty nice; I was able to start using my XWF space suit during stealth ops.

Also, it requires unaware melee kills; level it alongside pickpocketing and EM weapons: Shoot your victims with an EM weapon until they go sleepy times, loot their pockets, stick 'em with a sword on the way back towards the exit. This being a modern western game, obviously the Japanese sword is basically the best, strongest melee weapon you can get before Legendary affixes get involved.

Imagine realizing the game has more than FPS combat in it.

They're useful fo roleplay, I have completely ignored health, weapon and social skills, just focusing on ship construction and base creation in my bounty hunter play style.

There are a lot of completely or at least mostly useless perks.
Fitness - there are armor mods that do the same thing and you have tons of oxygen to sprint to begin with.
Wellness - even on very hard enemies don't do that much damage.
Energy weapon dissipation - armor effect does the same thing and enemies don't do that much damage.
Environmental conditioning - who cares?
Nutrition - have never felt the need to use food at all.
Pain tolerance - armor effect does the same thing and enemies don't do that much damage.
Cellular regeneration & decontamination - just use an aid item or bed, and I have never even noticed a difference when I've had an infection or injury anyways
Rejuvenation - just use a med pack, there's an endless amount of them
Commerce - vendors will never have enough credits to keep up with the amount of loot you get even without the perk, slightly useful for buying but seriously you get rich faster in this game than you ever could in New Vegas even with the casinos
Gastronomy - who cares
You get the point, seriously look at the perks and think "would I ever really use that?" and the answer is going to be no for most of them.

I think the way to play is to just take the perks as you need them. Don't plan in advanced until at least your second play-though and you know what your are doing.

Bear in mind that most of the 'online guides' are complete rubbish, the writers have probably not even played the game just knocked something up quickly for the advertising hits.

Fitness, Wellness, EW Dissipation, Pain tolerance, nutrition. Usually you don't need them, but imagine a melee fighter who styles is to run into the thick of the enemies and slice or punch them all to death. He seems to take no damage as bullets bonce off him. He does power attack after power attack and hardly needs to take a breath.

I disagree. They matter a lot. And they influence your game play a lot.

It feel to me that most of the perks just add numbers of to make a feeling of progress after you level up and catch up with enemies with higher levels later in the game
Combat is terrible, bulletspong everywhere and brain dead IA makes it as it is (terrible)
Stealth is boring
Pickpocket does nothing since you can be rich seeling trash and buy the best ♥♥♥♥ around
Battleship combat is neat but become boring for being repetitive and you can become OP fairly early in the game.
Even social skill to help you with the roleplay and quests in the game (which is the most fun part of this game in general imo) is useless since, most of the time, is a shootout

I will finish the main quest and I will get back to baldur's gate

Taskmaster and empath, yes, but kid stuff, no, I use dream house, I find that house is best of all, second is free house when you are done with UC Quest, but anything rest house is just meh, Now you could build outpost, but problem it's just hard to do it, like build a wall, and bathroom/restroom, it's just too limited in outpost. Most of good reason is roleplaying, but now if you could edit parent, then maybe kid stuff would be ok. Same for hero worshipped, edit that fan and rename rather than "fan", then that would be cool as well.

You might as well say what good is a gun, it's useless. What you said makes no sense. All of the perks have their uses in their way.

While I didn't mind it exactly, I wasn't a fan of the girl/boy perk that gave a bonus in talks with the opposite sex in FO4. That should have just been baked in if they wanted it to be a thing, or a trait if the game had traits. But a perk point sponge? Didn't seem a great idea.

I am at level 72. Have most of the ship perks, all the combat ones related to projectile non auto weapons. A lot of social ones. All the ones for upgrading weapons. I invested least in the physical traits. Now working on maxing out my crew with that final tier social perk.
Topper Sep 15, 2023 @ 8:08am
I also chose perks that open up the game for me instead of making my avatar better in combat. Persuasion, lock picking, and pick pocking was my 1st three perks. Then I went commerce, jetpack, fitness, wellness. Then I went full on ship: piloting, scanning, extra shield, jump range, engine etc.
After lvl 40 I put perk points into balistic dmg and better healing, at this point you can 1-hit lower level pirates and spacers with a .50 caliber rifle.
