The Mantis. Just...Wow.(Spoilers)
Holy crap. First she abused her kid. Then she abandoned her kid. Then she posthumously murdered her kid.

So I think we can all agree.

Feminist Girlboss of the Year.

Maybe. She is suppose to be so feared among spacers that they actually will flee, or did when I was flying the Mantis ship for one engagement and they actually turned blue instead of remaining red.

I wonder if that gets disabled if you modify the ship? I added some stuff to the Mantis' ship and never seen that happen.

I never modded the ship so that is possible. If I remember correctly it included radio chatter of spacers panicking as they recognized the ship, or that could have been in the full suit on a planet.

Yeah... I don't really see the Mantis story as being woke or anything. Sad to be sure though. Poor ol Leon.

Yea of course, there is no way is Bruce directly responsible for involving all his underage adopted kids in illegal vigilantism with known murdering psychopaths, ultimately being responsible for Jason's death.

It is astounding how you people just blindly accept Batman and look past him being an insane irresponsible parent, giving his character the benefit of the doubt for getting one of his adopted kids killed, yet this Mantis character is so much worse for what amounts to pretty much the same crime, getting her son killed. You can admit they are both terrible people for getting their kids killed, but for some reason, we have this strange double standard. Gee I wonder what that's about?
Now if you could just point to the part where I said Batman never did nothin wrong, that would be great.

But if you think training a young man so he could do something with his life is as bad as sending a young man into a trap of your own design with no warning about what he will find there, you're the one who is wrong...

The robins were not kids. They were young adults. And they wanted to fight crime just like Batman did. He was trying to help them. The Mantis just sent her kid to his death for a laugh.
Did you listen to the tablets? The ones that correspond to the "Learn More About the Mantis" optional, or just skip over that part? Because if you listen to them, she did everything she could to train him for taking over the mantle. That wasn't the problem.

The problem was that he was essentially an entitled millenial, that thought everything should just be handed to him. She even gave him the password to the turret trap, although he didn't pick up on it, because he was too busy feeling owed. I mean, listening to him talk, I was reminded of the green haired kid at Starbucks, crying that his boss wanted him to work his full shift. At the end of the day, I'm not sure that's any better, but it is what it is. She tried, he failed.

He had no clue that she was the Mantis and he didn't expect lethal turrets.

From what I got out of the dialogues and the messages from both Leon and Mantis, she had made half hearted attempts to train him in the past before disappearing for long periods of time. She clearly thought he was ready for the traps, and he clearly wasn't. But she didn't know that because she was never around. She just assumed he had kept up with his training and Leon just assumed she was just being abusive for no apparent reason.

I have replaced every single piece of the Mantis' ship, there is literally nothing original left, and I have run into events where the pirates freak out and disengage because they recognize me as the Mantis. So it's still possible, it may just have a relatively low probability of occurring.

Is there any reactivity if you enter the Mantis Lair with the Adoring Fan in your party? If not that is a massively missed opportunity.

Nope. I completely remodeled it into a C-Class Behemoth that in no way, shape or form resembles the original ship. Spacers still panic when they see me, but not every time.

And once the Crimson pirates actually got excited thinking they'd get rich if they claimed my Bounty.

I did not rename it, but someone else told me they renamed theirs and still get the Spacer reactions

As far as ui can tell they do not give you any ground reactions to wearing the Mantis Armor. And since the armor looks pretty Meh anyway I stopped using it. But you can change the ship pretty much anyway you want. I think think I have a single original module left except maybe the ramp to get on and off the ship

...and she tried to train him. Part of being the Mantis is that you're going to be out, being the Mantis. He's not supposed to know that she's the Mantis, that's the whole idea behind secret identities. But he was supposed to keep to his training, even in her absence, and he didn't. If he's starving, and I give him food that he refuses to eat, and dies because I left after I gave him food, it's on him, not me. This scenario would have played out the same way whether the Mantis was male or female, which it apparently has been, for a while. It's odd that the first one to fail, that we know of, is the one that refused to put in the work.

hard to believe that someone who was apparently smart enough to get away with being an undercover superhero for their entire life was also stupid enough to send their own child into a literal death trap without real training or even so much as a warning.

She even admitted that she was a terrible parent that was never around....

Whether you want to say she trained him well or not doesn't change the fact that he very obviously was not ready for the *lethal trap* she set for him, then sent him to *with no warning*.
The fact he didn't even know she was the Mantis until he was looking around the lair tells me all I really needed to know about how well she prepared him for that....

Edit: And I really don't think it matters what gender the Mantis is... Why do people keep bringing that up?

Free ships are only good to add to your ship slots without paying a registration fee.

Armor's useless, apparently the stuff I found at the beginning of NG+ was way better for the rest of the game.

Also level 67 now, so the difficulty isn't hard at all, I'm tanky even on very hard, only legendaries can put a dent due to the odd weapon traits they carry that could bypass armor stats.

He was supposed to keep up the training? For what, exactly? Do you Ninja train for your office job? So why should he have kept ninja-training for his office job?

By your own admission he didn't know he was supposed to become the Mantis one day. His psycho survivalist paranoid mom give him like...maybe a year or two worth of training and then vanished never to be seen again. He moved on to live a normal life without her.

Since she was the Mantis she was perfectly within her power to change the rules, and clue him in as to WHY she wanted him to train. Heck, she could just pulled a Batman/Big Daddy/Sam Coe(Three whack jobs who somehow still managed to be better parents than Mantis, lol) and taken him with her to continue overseeing his training.

And if she couldn't be bothered to do any of that she still could have proven herself a better parent than Bruce Wayne ever was by simply LEAVING HIM ALONE. Since she so spectacularly failed to prepare him for the life of the Mantis she could have earned herself a mother of the year award by simply staying the heck out of the poor shmuck's life for good.
