I don't even use the ladders its faster to boost pack to the upper floors. the ladder animation is so damn slow.
I have had zero issues with zero gravity maneuvering. Having the option to use ramps instead of a ladder would be a nice feature to have, since it is already in the game on larger ships.
BTW, you can actually build large ships, up to 80m, but most folks seem to stay within 40m or less.
Its a matter of worldbuilding.
The ladders are for the lore of moving around zero G situations, part of the Nasa punk aesthetic. Similarly even the largest ships you can build are still small ships in the context of the universe. The ships that one sees ramps used are things like colony ships, which are at an entirely different scale.
