Transgenderism is officially in Starfield and explains pronouns.

If you go to the Enhance vendor in New Atlantis there will be two NPCs outside the store. One is female and the other is male.

The female will speak to the male saying she doesn't recognize her because of the Enhance alterations and call him "Zoey". If you continue pressing spacebar to speak to them "Zoey" is referred to as "she" in past contexts. Meaning, that is, that "Zoey" used to have a female body and now has a male body in which to surprise her man.

So...going to the Enhance vendor you yourself can completely change your sex along with pronouns.

Seems like the devs specifically interwove Transgenderism into the game. People in the game-world change their identity/body/whatever and the player is able to do so as well.

Was a bit surprised to see it. Usually it is just lip service.

Honestly I liked that the devs showed that if technology existed to successfully change your entire body that it would be used to do so and the only way one could tell is if you knew who someone was.


It's a refreshing change of pace compared to the usual portrayal where the tech or magic exists but trans people are portrayed as a "insert current year" cutout.

It doesn't seem like transgenderism if there are no social norms or some amorphous definition of what constitutes a man and what constitutes a woman. It seems to be an elimination of the idea of social constructions rooted in biology in the first place.

It's a society of shapeshifters and identity (if you can afford it) that has very little, if anything, to do with your appearance. Its existence is only there as a pretext for allowing a player character to modify their appearance after character creation, I don't see it as some brave message about the future, although some who want it to be that are sure to jump on it.
