1. (weapongroup 1) fixed forward-mounted weapons
2. (weapongroup 2) high-energy turrets (drain your reactor)
3.(weapongroup 3) projectile turrets (slower recoverytime)
or you could just get rid of weapongroup1.
But then your ship becomes a: "take no prisoners" ship.
Don't use missiles. (unless it's forward mounted, point-blank and ramming)
Turrets are ideal for those who are not that good with eye/hand reflexes and slow to react. In my case, they are much better at hitting a target than I am. :P So I use 8 turrets and all are the 4000 range ones.
But you want one weapon group to be manual fire ones. Just in case. Which ones depends also on your skills and play style. The Vanguard Obliterators Auto Projectors are considered by many as the best manual fire weapons, as 6 can be mounted to your ship and they have a high fire rate and good range. Turrets benefit a lot from the Skills for such.
I haven't had great success with turrets yet, but maybe I'll try this layout.
I'm liking 6 Vanguard Obliterators as my primary weapon group. EM weapons on group 2, which I don't power up unless there's just one enemy left and I feel like boarding, and missiles on 3. So that's only 13 pips for weapons, leaving plenty for shields and engines.
With more power, swapping the missiles for turrets is better. And if I'm done with capturing things, might as well just throw another six Obliterators on there instead of the EM guns. That takes a lot of weapon mounts, of course.
In practice, I haven't yet tried the 12-Obliterator loadout. I can't think of anything that could survive that much dakka for long, though.
Is it necessary? Nope. Would it be more useful to also run a few turrets and maybe EM weapons? Probably. Is it fun? HELL YES!
I use missiles, as the Atlatl 280 whatevers in pair, do over 500 points of damage. I HAVE noticed a bug though.... The launcher clearly shows it hold 4 missiles. You fire on missile from each launcher per button press, but, THE GAME sees it as firing two missiles. I get two shots, then I have to wait for reload......
yea the 3 of each type I knew about, but didn't know the number you could have per group was based on power, thats why I was confused when someone above said they had 6 I never knew that
And thats the only weapon I'm using, no need for anything else.
