$120 in Australia?
Seriously?? Is inflation really that bad? Or is this just a greedy crash grab, no new AAA release has ever been that high for a standard edition. What a rip, just wait a year or so when it hit lowers to $20 like every other bethesda game.

It's Australian taxes and exchange rates. I seriously doubt you'll be seeing this game at $20 for several years. Talk to your government if you want to work on the high cost of living in Australia.

Seems about right for $70 USD plus 10% GST going by exchange rates I found online.

Or $500 for the Constellation Edition ($300 US) which I'll have in my grubby mitts in just 3 more weeks :steamhappy:

It's ridiculous, but no, this is Steam price gouging.

In New Zealand. It's $130 on Steam, but I can order a boxed copy for $110 from a retailer.

The goods are priced for what the market is willing to pay, sadly.

It's the same price in New Zealand as it is in Australia despite the number being higher. 1 $ does not equal a completely different dollar.

You can get a boxed version for as low as $88 in Aus (Harvey Norman), with prices going up to $120 from EB Games, matching the Steam price.
Personally I don't recall the last time I bought something directly off Steam that wasn't massively reduced in one of their many sales, as resellers are almost always significantly cheaper. The only downside of that is there is no refund option if you hate the game, but buy carefully and not from Steam (at least for Australian pricing policies).

$88 Harvey Norman: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/starfield-pc-1.html

$99 JB Hifi: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/pc-game-starfield?queryID=f78da0b54f2eb181a25c2c3bcb35845c&objectID=653431

I think it comes with a Steam code since Bethesda Launcher is no longer active.

I'm not saying it is more expensive in NZ as Australia, I know how our exchange rates work.

It's $129.95 on Steam, while it's $109.00 at MightyApe or at JB HiFi.

While in Australia, it's cheaper boxed at retailers than digitally distributed, as others have mentioned.

Hope that helps.

Wouldn't it make more sense to be a Microsoft store code?

Right, I forgot to mention the EB Games listing: https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/pc/240256-starfield

If you go to the EB Games page and scroll down, it says down there "Steam Key provided for PC version", so it's from that I assume the other listings will also come with a Steam key. I hope

Sadly, you have to pay that much when, say, a Turk only has to pay a small fraction due to regional pricing. It's cringe, but that's the way modern devs operate to maximize profit.
Tenoshii Aug 11, 2023 @ 9:53pm
The price point helps to cover the increased infrastructure costs that companies have to deal with since more people are gaming now than there were 20 years ago. Online bandwidth can be quite expensive even for single player games.
Thumper Aug 11, 2023 @ 10:11pm
...just pay it, and be happy...
Dufus Aug 11, 2023 @ 11:03pm
the price tag will exclude some people, steam will add there bit on top though i think on the bethesda site its the same so this is a bit poor of bethesda or microsoft which is likely the real price fixer, there looking to get back there outlay for the company. i think todd will be gone soon so expect bethesda to change
