Oh use the buggy, it's fun on the Red Mile. I keep saying this, but consume at least 4 bottles of whiskey before you start, adds some RL 'chaos' to your driving for a while.
I've not really dabbled in the Creation Kit for Starfield, I've made a follower or two when playing FO4 and Skyrim and added weapons. I do most of my changes in the editor making changes to an already created item or mod.
One of the outpost mods that adds different crew chars to outpost, I made changes to the chairs to allow up to 10 more crew members per each chair added to your outpost.
I'll have to give the kit a try in starfield
And this is one of the reasons Starfield is a good game. You can tailor the game to your liking via various console commands such as the global variable you referenced.
More likely, your skills and equipment have improved. I did my share of dying early on doing the red mile, but now I also sail through it.
