Nice. I only have a AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
The other thing that was different is some games, warhammer 40k inquistor martyr as an example, that used to run fine on my 3700x had issues on the 7800x3d in regards to micro stuttering and fps. The solution was to change the cpu core affinity in task manager. The games try to use all cores by default which can cause issues so you have to manually reduce the number of cores it uses and the micro stutters go away.
7800x3d doesn't need liquid cooling, you can get by with fans and heat sink, but you will need a large heat sink if you go that route. Mine just barely fit in my case with 2mm clearance, so something to think about if you upgrade to that cpu as they do run hot.
They may not know how to make laptops that don’t breal after a year, but they sure do know how to make a good motherboard
Thank you so much for this. I have always felt the same but I think my problem with liquid cooling is the liquid itself. To me, electricity and liquid doesn't go together. LOL! Your explanation is a lot more educated.
Thanks again.
I don't keep up with the hardware side anymore, but I should get more educated like you on the topic. I heard one of larger water block companies was having problems with leaks and such recently. I don't know the source of that though.
I personally wouldn’t go back to normal coolers
I hear you. They are obviously effective or they wouldn't be so popular. You seem to have a nice rig. :-)
I used to have a 1080ti and a 7700k, upgraded to a 3070 and a 3800x 3 and a half years ago with the tax money i got back. That is around the same time i got my liquid cooler.
The only things i kept from my original rig are my psu, ram and storage devices. And the case obviously
Not sure when I will do another build though. The current machine is more than adequate to the task for my needs..... and beth won't be releasing another game for several more years yet..... Which is generally what prompts me to upgrade. If this machine dies though.... (the reason for my last upgrade....) all bets are off, and I will likely replace everything in the machine. Still though, I'll stick with a heatsink/fan combo, as they more than fulfill my needs, and keep my CPU at acceptable temps. (I have a HUGE heatsink at this point.... one fan is all it needs.)
I still have the fractal design case from my original build, it has served me well, but with the addition of the watercooler I had to be creative with the storage holder and kinda broke the case.
but with all the lian li stuff coming out I thought why not, their cases look sooooo slick.
plus, I bought my original desktop as a student, with an actual income i want to go all out with my new rig.
I built my first PC back in the early-mid 90s.... A pentium 4, 266mhz, 4 MEG of ram.... (which was considered a lot back then....) A diamond stealth 4mb vid card, and a monster 3d addon card, with an additional 4mb VRAM..... For its time, it was pretty good. :D Ran all my games without a problem. That was back before SATA was a thing, so, I used a PCI raid controller, and SCSI disk drives. :D
